Yes, and you can get 1 hour record time. Don’t forget the 1200a has a loud fan, not great for sound shooting.

  • The 1200a will only record in the LP mode (aka EX).

I have never been impressed with software up-rezzing. I would import the footage firewire, edit, then export back to a 1200a via firewire. Then use either the 1200a’s 1080 24p output option or another hardware based converter to film out or an intermediate format like D5. The deck does a nice job.

There is no solution. I added a Black Magic card to my edit system, and view HD via the component output.

I don’t know if Panasonic found a work around in the new deck.

If you shot at 25 fps, the camera may have been set to 60HZ. That may be your problem. I am unclear if FCP supports 60HZ DVCPRO HD footage. Try setting the deck to 60HZ as see if it works.

Can you offer some more details on your system setup? Ram, Drives, OS, ect.

Check the DIF menus (800’s) and make sure they are set to the factory settings. Double check the deck is set to firewire 400, as it is adjustable down to 100.

Also, make sure your 1200a is mounted to its own independent firewire bus. Do not try to share the bus with it and another firewire device.

    Steve,

Out of curiosity, why does the Varicam record at 18um? Why not 9um and double the record time?

D5 would be a good choice. Solid, reliable, established format.

AJA or Blackmagic both read any frame rate from 1-60. Both can do 4:2:2

The dark compression is in the VTR menus. If your camera does not have this feature it is available from Panasonic as a software upgrade.
