I have used some AE and ALOT of Boris products ie. Red, Continuum Complete etc. Does Shake compare to Red? If not what does it compare to? Are we talking Lightwave/Maya learning curve?

….because to get the G5 setup with FCP we must sell the Avid system first and the drives are going with it.

I have posted below that we are considering switching systems from Avid to FCP. One thing in our five years with Avid is that thier support was terrable when our system decided to crap out two years ago. Over 2000.00 later and the sytem hasn’t had another major problem but the cost was unexpected. It seems for the price(our XPress was 29000) FCP can do much better then Avid ever dreamed of. Now that we are getting more corporate work, commercials etc. and moving away from weddings, dance studios, local events(hey something had to pay the bills) is FCP the way to go? The Avid XPress is certainly starting to show its limitations and to upgrade through Avid the price is astronomically high! ……just trying to do as much research as possible before switching an entire system……

    Thanks,
    Chris

Red is very picky when it comes to what cards it wants to work with. Even after updating our card it still is fairly slow. Hmmm…I wonder if all my saved presets done in Red for the PC can be transfered over??

Thanks for all the info on the I/O box! That problem is solved! Now how about shake and motion for FCP? Red is open gl and integrated/plug in with the avid so you don’t have to export/import every time you want to do an effect and then export/import every time something doesn’t come out wrong.

Looked at the AJA breakout box and it doesn’t have XLR for audio…..still curious about the graphics aspect as I had posted earlier.

For RS-422 control does FCP support it. EX: In Avid you click on digitize and it reads the timecode off the tape for current and future digitizing in case you lose something. Once you set have all your clips set up you punch batch digitize and it will digitize all the clips from that tape. How are Motion2 and Shake? It always seems that the final product of these two programs along with After Affects always looks more polished than Red but the workflow/plugin factor of Red is a plus. Thing I like about Red is that you can access it directly as a plug in and preview as you work without having to export then reimport to see if the effect worked to your liking. Of course if the effect isn’t what you wanted then you have to reexport and try again with AE. Correct me if I’m wrong about Shake and Motion….

    Thanks,
    Chris
