Thanks Jon. I actually have Streamclip, but I was hoping to avoid re-compressing. I’ll just do as you suggest.

If you are going to go directly from FCP to Compressor, make sure first that any 3rd party effects render correctly. For instance, Boris transitions do no render if you export direct from the timeline. You must make a reference movie first, otherwise you will get a cut where there was supposed to be an effect.

No. The 5.1 Suite evidently has a new version of Compressor included.

What version of FCP are you using? An Apple rep at NAB told me that the issues with Compressor are resolved in version 5.1. I don’t know why I should have to go to NAB to find this out. Why can’t Apple communicate these things to it’s customers instead of keeping us in the dark?

Chapter Markers work fine when encoding with Compressor. Just make sure when exporting your Quicktime Movie from FCP, that you select “DVD Studio Pro Markers.”

Did you check your master input level in System Preferences / Sound?

I have found that either way, it’s excrutiatingly long, but he did say that that issue had been fixed as well. I don’t have 5.1 yet, so we’ll see.

I was told by an Apple rep at NAB that the Compressor 2-Pass VBR problem is fixed in FCP 5.1

Apple DID remove the export option with FCP 5. They want you to use Compressor. But, oddly enough, some people retained the export option after they upgraded. I called Apple and was told “officially” that it was removed. I’ll bet you are using 2-pass VBR in Compressor. If you are, switch to Single-pass and your problems should disappear.

Are you on 5.0 or 5.0.4? This was a problem with the initial release of FCP 5
