If you only need the outline, why would you need any greenscreen? I believe you would only need the foreground to stand clearly out from the background.
You could shoot her against the sky or a bright wall, which would make her seem entirely black as you point the light at the background. Or you could do the exact opposite: Light her up from many directions and thereby making the background seem black (or just very dark).

The hair could still be a problem – but it will be smaller than if you want to use a keying tool (other than extract, which I would use in this case).

‘Prompt’ solved the problem. Thank you a lot, it will make my life easier. I would actually like to write more than just one line, to show that I really am happy that you spend your time writing this trick…
    really cool.

I have tried a couple of things, but cannot figure out if the problem can be solved, and I feel a little too unexperienced to think of possible workarounds.

Maybe the main idea can be made up in an other way:
The idea is to be able to add an effect faster than rightclicking a layer and so on, and even faster than the presets and effects menu, which does also include the use of the mouse. I wanted to be able to call a script from a shortcut, type a number and thereby identify an effect (out of perhabs 20 effects, which I do constantly apply) and hit enter. The enter-part could probably be done with the onChange() function, but focusing the tiny textfield 167 times a day would annoy my brain.

March 22, 2007 at 8:06 am in reply to: “could not create image buffer” Failed QT export

I’ve encountered the error in both AE6.0 and AE6.5.1. Changing the Max mem.usage and the RAM cache usually solves the problem, but once I made a comp with some layers, and one of those was corner pinned to 6000 px wide or more, which caused it to fail (naturally). Rendering in several steps solved the problem.
However, I still only have 2GB RAM and I’m considering buying more, but I have some questions:

Will my old dual RAM’s BUSspeed (of 533) be limiting my new dual RAM?
Is it at all wise to have two sets of dualRAM, which are different?
Where can I find the plugin, which makes the 3GB (I think) boundary disappear?

March 19, 2007 at 11:07 am in reply to: selecting or adding effects fast

    Thanks for the answers.

Actually I meant how it would be possible to switch the selection from one effect to another – ctrl+up/downarror switches the selected layer only. I found out that one way to select another effect by the keyboard be pressing f3 first, but I want to be able to select another property from the timeline window. Is it possible to do this with a script? selectedProperties is a read-only and therefore I find it troublesome.

Is there a complete list of the script-names of all the effects?

    thanks in advance,

February 17, 2007 at 1:53 pm in reply to: High CPU usage with no project open.

It is not happening in other programs like Photoshop 7.0 or cs2, firefox, virtual dub, particle illusion. All three version of aftereffects 6.0, 6.5 and 7.0 are making my CPU speed up if I forgot to mention that in the last message.
It is quite annoying, because the fan speeds up as well, and is it not very silent – if I should wake a sleeping elephant, I would consider using it.

Do you know, what I can do to solve the problem, or what I should search for?

  • You ‘could’ do that with a script, but that would be quite troublesome – otherwise – yes, it is really that bad.

The problem is solved – I changed the folder name to something else than the name, I used before. Some strings in the registry must have caused the trouble.

    Thanks for the quick replay.

Does anyone know which method I should execute to select a layer?
I have searched the scripting guide.pdf, but with no result so far.

In the clip the person is reappears after being disintergrated.
Is it made in a compositing program or is there a way to make particles fly “backwards” – or reverse the timeline in a single layer etc.?
