[Steve Connor] “I get an “update” option when you go to the FCP X page in the app store”

Click it… for me nothing ever happens…

There is a 10.1.4 update in the store, but it only downloads if you reinstall FCP X right now. My guess is it’ll be “live” soon. So the full install is there, but no updater yet. Seems like a maintenance release, with the MXF export added.

[Dax Roggio] “More specifically, the problem only occurs if I have been working on a project that has Renderer set to CUDA (Project Settings > General > Video Rendering and Playback).

If I use OpenCL, the problem never start”

I can confirm this as well. As PrCC isn’t my main axe, so to speak, I haven’t seen the stabilization rendering issues you note, but I’ll keep an eye out… 🙂

[Oliver Peters] ” For example, when you are creating “frankenbites” and need to find the same word ending a sentence with the proper inflection.”

I use Soundbite for that… works pretty well if you have a clean dialog track. It sort of works with X. I’d like to see that, as well as transcription built into X. The OS has the most of the parts to make it happen. A speech extension? I wish I was more of a coder nerd, i bet it’s do-able…

I’d say out of an ant hill. 😉

  • [Andrew Kimery] “Person 1: Why does Bob do things like that?
Person 2: He does things like that because for reasons X, Y and Z it’s a very reliable solution to the problems he faces.
Person 3: Stop telling me I should do things like Bob!
    Person 2: ???”

lol. Gravity was cut on MC because it suited their workflow. That dual story Honda thingy was cut on X because it suited their workflow. There are plenty of situations in which editors who would benefit from things available in FCP X don’t use it for pretty stupid reasons (“nobody uses it!”, “it needs tracks!“, ad infinitum.)

Sangers decision -3 years ago- was perfectly reasonable. If he made the same decision for the same workflow reasons today it would still be reasonable.

Me three… Snapshots along the way, make all changes to original. Once a version 1 is locked, duplicate that as a snapshot and that snapshot becomes the “master” until I hit V.2 etc…

November 16, 2014 at 5:14 pm in reply to: This quote is too long for a sig…

[Mitch Ives] “Not to put too fine a point on things, but what the hell do a couple of Dr’s know about war?”

Point taken. The quote was from an article about politics, and was referencing the Maginot Line. Even a professor can see relying on that was a mistake… Anyway, I just liked the quote. Not calling anyone dinosaurs either. I think it applies to the film/TV industry in general so I kinda liked it.

I’ve cut spots recently (in FCP 7 FWIW) that “aired” on Vine. That’s the new “war”. 🙂

It will. You’re gonna love it. Now they need to make a “retina” version to pair with the 5k iMac… 😉
