[Richard Herd] “”Sweet bra. Let’s go surf.”

lol… your image of Venice is outdated. it’s all Latté swilling yuppies and tourists now. And gang-bangers of course, they never left. The surfers have mostly moved on… 😉

[Scott Witthaus] “Actually I was thinking the other way around. Why leave X? Either way, R11 is a looong way from being a heavy lifting editor. Color and titles? Maybe. But as an editor? Color me skeptical.”

To me, the best parts of FCP X are the Browser/keywording/search, no tracks to patch, Roles, Real time fx previews and the fact that it’s pretty easy and quick to do really nice looking titles and compositing in-app. I’m sure everyones mileage will vary on that list. 😉

Let’s assume that all the playback issues go away in R12. It’s still a track-based system, and not a simple one at that. I can totally see finishing and fine tuning in resolve, and using it as a “Rosetta Stone” but as an NLE? It’s really just a nicer version of every other NLE out there. Either way, I’m looking forward to messing around with it. 🙂

[Bret Williams] “What they’ve added now is copy and paste in the timeline. Not in the keyframe editor. So you can cmd+click or shift click a set of keyframes in the timeline (where they actually make more sense to me) and paste them to other layers.”

Ah, understood. Told ya I was bumbling around… 😉

[Bret Williams] “You still can’t lasso them. “

That’s what I was wondering… according to help docs, you can now… And i kinda got it to work, but my lack of skills lead me to believe I was doing’ it wrong… Here’s the relevant page:

[Bret Williams] “And I appreciate your tuts! Probably going to get your new keyed for sure. I do a lot of green screen in Motion.”

Hawaiki Keyer is really nice. Also, as I’m someone who just bumbles around in Motion, are the alleged keyframe improvements an improvement? I haven’t played with it much since it came out…

[Simon Ubsdell] “Is there actually “a Motion team” anymore or is it just “the FCP X team” (or whoever’s been released from watch duty this week) stumbling around in the innards of an application that they don’t really understand or care about in order to feed the FCP X beast?”

lol. Can’t answer most of that, but I do know there is an separate Motion team. I think they’re here in LA.

Actually… I believe they’re working on a version of Motion for the Watch, so maybe that’s why there aren’t a lot of new features in the desktop app. I’ve heard rumors it will run only on the “Apple Watch Pro”, which will be unveiled at NAB next year. It’s gonna be awesome. :-p

[Simon Ubsdell] “I’m not difficult – I just want the things that I want, and I don’t give a damn about the stuff that other people want that I don’t want! What’s unreasonable about that?”

Nothing at all. I’m just a Pollyanna – I think FCP X is perfect just as it is, Every time Apple adds anything to it I am thrilled and can think of nothing more they could do… and then they do something else! I love them. Nothing wrong with that is there?

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to work. Pr and FCP 7 for me today! They too are perfect apps! I am full of love!
    😉

[Simon Ubsdell] “I can’t imagine what Apple thought they were doing giving us all that flat rubbish – obviously a crazy rush of blood to the head. So glad to see they’ve come to their senses.
    “

lol. Look, I don’t think the 3D stuff is a big deal. The other stuff that’s been done to the guts of the app is what makes me happy. I’m just saying that it’s not useless. Whether one approves of the aesthetic or not.

Let’s pretend for a minute that Apple has not given up, and revamps the timeline. Roles mixing/bussing, proper replace edit, trimming tweaks, TC readout improved/debugged etc etc. Would that make everyone here happy? I’m gonna say no.
