[Morten Ranmar] “After accidentally opening some of the clips in AE, and even without making any changes – FCPX was unable to recognise these clips and cost me a days work to re-edit. So I trashed the toy.”

That bug was fixed ages ago.

[Jeremy Garchow] “timecode is frame by frame metadata.”

FCP X reads TC, but doesn’t use it internally. So… there are no frames in FCPX, it’s just time increment cadence. So a clip isn’t defined by frames, it’s like this for master clips:

    clip start="0s" format="ft2" duration="103376273/30000s"

    and this in the timeline

Maybe this is part of the difficulty? I dunno. I liked being able to relink to anything, no matter how much of a mess it made. :-)

[Bret Williams] “Beat ya to it. But guess what? Opening the project f*cks the font and an xml export just reports Helvetica. Don’t screw up your fonts folks.”

No I mean open the backup project package, and then open the projects’ fcpevent database in a text editor (i suggest text wrangler, the free version of BBEdit) search for “font” and you’ll find it towards the end of the file… After all the code gibberish there’s some human readable xml that’ll list it… 🙂

[Bret Williams] “Why do I do clean installs again?”

lol.. try maybe opening a pre-update backup of the library and poke around in that project’s xml. The old font should still be there.

[Bret Williams] “My custom title refuses to acknowledge. Still says it’s missing. Of course it doesn’t give the file path.”

Did you reinstall the motionvfx plugin? 10.11 made some folder path changes and I know mVFX was one of the plugins affected. So your custom X plugin may be in the right place, but the stuff in the OS that’s needed for it to work may not be. Worth shot if u haven’t done so…

Probably an engineer. That biz has changed quite a bit since the analog days… 🙁

Got it… really nice for mucking up audio. 🙂

[Steve Connor] “[Tony West] “I don’t “want” to have to send the whole section over to Motion while ding this. I want to send the template over there. It’s “faster””

Yep, Motion is now a great titling tool within FCPX and perhaps for many that’s all the interaction it needs”

Actually… and this really is an honest question as I never used Motion in FCP Old… why would you want to send something to Motion? Like, what things would you (meaning anybody here) be wanting to do?

[Jenn Lindsay] ” I wonder if anyone can help me troubleshoot this?”

In preferences, do you have any auto analysis stuff turned on? If so… turn it all off and see what happens… EDIT: I didn’t highlight it, but turn off the Keyword stuff too if it’s on.

February 9, 2016 at 2:56 am in reply to: Paste Balance Color

[Noah Kadner] “That wouldn’t make much sense as each clip has different requirements.”

True in theory… in practice it was quite useful to be able to paste Balance and Match color settings. Having them orphaned is kind of a bummer.
