[Bret Williams] “Really? Cool. Gonna try that. If that works I could turn off the display of connections and clean up the interface.”

I haven’t tried it either, heard about it on facebook of all places. Here’s a video someone made about it, though it seems preety self explanatory.. 😉

[Bret Williams] “If I could toggle the tilde key to on, I could pretty much ignore connection points as long as they were at the default and hadn’t been adjusted to some weird spot like at the end of a clip”

Supposedly, you can press the tilde key and while holding it down, option click on a clip to keep persistent mode. Tap tilde again to turn it off. It’s not documented, and some folks can’t get it to work consistently, but I guess you can try…

November 1, 2012 at 6:38 pm in reply to: 10.0.6 custom share options – question

Hey Simon… check this thread from a couple days ago….

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/344/14674#14677

Sounds like the same problem, and the fix was…

I Fixed the issue. I went back into FCS remover and this time checked BOTH Compressor 4 AND Compressor 3, I guess for whatever reason some settings were still lingering from that. But after uninstalling completely and reinstalling, I can now see the Custom Settings in the Destinations under share for FCPX.

[Jamal Watts] “how would a mixer work without tracks anyway?”

Assign roles to fader(s)/Channel(s). Maybe you might have to make mix groups with compound clips first. Or just some sort of round trip to Logic?

October 31, 2012 at 11:05 pm in reply to: Transferring FCP X Projects

[Kim Oakley] “I hope Apple makes a way that it will grab the effects when copying projects or events to another drive. But until then, will have to copy the effects.”

If you haven’t found them, they’re all in the “Motion Templates” folder in your “Movies” folder. This isn’t new BTW… In FCP 7 (and all other NLE’s as far as I know) If you didn’t have a plug in used in a sequence installed, you’d need to install it on your current system. My solution is to use Drop Box and copy the templates folder to it every time I add something new. It’s EZ to just replace the whole folder on my other machines and everything is always there. 🙂

  • [Rocco Richardson] “Apple setttings lists 10 groups, Custom Settings lists 0.”

OK that’s weird… All mine showed up after the update… Is it possible you have 2 versions of compressor installed or something?

  • [Rocco Richardson] “however, I am unable to see any custom compressor presets I have created in compressor.”

You can click the share button above the timeline, or open the “destinations” preferences tab, and choose “add destination” Then, in the choices you’ll see, double click on “compressor settings”‘ You’ll see all your settings and can then add them to the destinations list. After that they’ll show up in the sharing pop up menu. 🙂

October 26, 2012 at 10:54 pm in reply to: Who is Going To Switch?

[Herb Sevush] “if I have some video from a multicam on a video track in the timeline, and below it, or above it or wherever they put it I have 3 different tracks of audio, and the timeline marker is at rest there is a window that gives the current source timecode of each of those elements at that point similar to the timecode window in Legacy?”

Yes, you can do it, but it’s not all piled in an overlay like in 7. Assuming you have clip skimming turned on, simply park the playhead wherever, and skim to the playhead position. The main TC display shows the source TC of whatever clip you’re skimming over. Not all on the screen at once, but really simple.

[James Ewart] “Reveal in Event browser…why change it’s name from Match Frame…adolescent ridiculousness”

lol… I actually think it makes more sense relative to what you;re actually doing than match frame, we’re just used to that term. In my dreams I hope they redefine Match Frame to be the name of the still missing (and sorely missed) source playhead to timeline playhead replace command. *That* would actually make sense… 😉

October 26, 2012 at 7:01 pm in reply to: Set Clip Range

[Bret Williams] “The reason for the c key is pretty obvious. Clicking on a clip moves the playhead which you often don’t want. I often work with skimming off, but even then clicking moves the playhead.

    Not anymore. 🙂

[Bret Williams] X also works in the timeline. I think it sets a range instead of selecting the clip, but for most purposes it’s the same thing.”

In the timeline, X selects a range defined by whatever clip (or chunk of gap/slug) in the primary storyline the playhead is positioned over. The c key still selects whatever clip (connected or primary) your pointer is hovering over…
