No, it sounds like you followed your instincts and did what you could. There are some who don’t get it and will not even consider the experienced editor’s suggestions. In these cases you just push the buttons.

In a situation like this you make yuor wishes known before the edit session starts so the editor knows he is to be a button pusher and you are not interested in his input.

I always sent 7.5 setup on digibeta, because it is was designed for the analog broadcast domain.

I no longer work in a position to send out to broadcast facilities. But I always setup my Digibeta the same way I set up my Beta SP with 7.5 black level. Never had to contend with the DV concepts. I will always setup at 7.5 until someone tells me that 7.5 is never ever under no circumstances used anymore. I was so looking forward to the concept of Digital Television so there would only be one standard in the world, but alas, we now have more standards than we ever dreamed there could be.

Found that mentioned in another forum, if it doesn;t confuse the heck out of you, then you might have an understanding of something I am not sure I will ever totally understand. I’m getting too old for major changes in policy.

My reputation was built around the fact I used the script as a rough cut. If I felt a word could be changed and would make better sense and maybe even grammatically better, I did it, My clients who had worked with me for years expected I would do it. They were surprised if I didn’t change something. New clients usually were told (since most of my new clients came by word of mouth) that I would pretty much control the edit, unless they wre adamant about something, then I would allow that letting them know I was doing it under protest.

Now dont get me wrong, I am a pussycat in the edit bay, but I have always fought for what I believed was right. It was expected of me to do so. I have never been a button pusher that does only what was laid out to do. Ya gotta put some of you in the project.
Now don’t get fired from telling your boss or clients that you are doing this this way cause Charlie said you should. Walk lightly atr forst, build up that reputation, then you have the right to do what you feel strongly is correct.

As best as I remember about our decks, (since I’m no longer there this is purely memory from a person that don’t got much) we were able to get 4000 out of one, but keep in mind there are no guarantees, heads are not that expensive, really. If you have an engineer that has the tools and knowledge of replacement, which I had the luxury of having, since I sent him to school. The scanner is the expensive part.

I would never step out on a limb and say “Sure you can get 4000 hours.” But if the machine has been taken well care of it is possible. Sorry I can’t be more informative.

Avid tends to bring in digital audio hot. You should bve able to bring the level down in Avid with no problem. If you are getting mp3’s what are you using to convert? Can you use the conmversion program to bring down the level before importing into Avid?

There are many tools available and they tell you about them. Some are Freeware, Some are Shareware. This is a good source of information for buying burners, players, all kinds of information for DVD, VCD, and SVCD

We have had two lenses repaired after they had been dropped, with what we had decided would be total damage. He is highly recommended by the Hollywood market for lens repair.
