Hi and thanks for any opinions

By the book an A500 should have a full head replacement at 3000hours? How much longer can you leave it if everything looks alright?

    Sorry for the OT question.

Til it don’t look all right. If the heads are cleaned and the machine is in a good clean cool invironment, you can go well past the 3000 hours. Just keep a watch for possible tape scratches, etc.

    Hi Charlie

Thanks for your answer. Sorry to ask you to expand but when you say ‘well past’ are we thinking another 1000 hours? I’m just about to gamble slightly on a new ‘old deck’.

    thanks

PS Anyone have any good experiences with the new DVWM2000?

As best as I remember about our decks, (since I’m no longer there this is purely memory from a person that don’t got much) we were able to get 4000 out of one, but keep in mind there are no guarantees, heads are not that expensive, really. If you have an engineer that has the tools and knowledge of replacement, which I had the luxury of having, since I sent him to school. The scanner is the expensive part.

I would never step out on a limb and say “Sure you can get 4000 hours.” But if the machine has been taken well care of it is possible. Sorry I can’t be more informative.

    Thanks

I’m just trying to way up buying a deck that I used to use (It sat in a rack and played mainly clean Digi tapes). To get the Sony recomended 3000 hour service in the UK costs about the equivalant of $8500 (US). So your advice helps me make up my mind on the price I offer.

    regards

    Michael
