If your machines have a lot of tape go throuogh them, it is not uncommon to clean them every day, and in some cases if you have multiple shifts, it is not uncommon to ahve them cleaned at the beginning of each shift.
If you don’t have a lot of tape shuttle, such as in linear editing, or a lot of tape from different sources, then you might try cutting back to every other day, or even once a week, but every day is always best.

I hear from many people about Chyron being user unfriendly, but once you learn the basics it starts to make total sense, and actually becomes very easy plus the main thing about Chyron is that it is very fast after you set up templates, macros, etc. Things jsut fall together, that is why it has always been so popular for sporting events, things happen quickly adn you need to be able to respond almost instantly and the Chyron allows this to happen. The training is excellent if you can affford to go or to send someone.

If you are currently using the Editware system, drop by and see Fastrack at Editware. Hybrid system, linear/nonlinear. If you feel you might want to stay somewhat linear. They will probably recommend the Grass Valley Profile system to go with it.

Forget technology as a deterrent or helpful tool, I’m sure you could do an adequate job thinking of both, and shooting to get an acceptable product of both, but you will never be really good at either attempting to do both at the same time.

I don’t know of a software, for MAC, or PC for that matter under $500. As thax said I think you are looking in the wrong forum. See if any of the guys in the Videographers forum have an idea for you. I doubt the Corporate Video forum would have anything.

Guys, Be careful, reading this thread has brought back memories of why I burned out after about 35 years in the business. I was totally unable to work, or even think clearly for almost 3 years. People talk about creative burnout, but the hours you get into working leads to total burnout, which I feel you never totally overcome. I still have moments of brilliance, but I don’t have the creative endurance I once had.

Heed my warning, give youself time to breathe ocassionally. Get away, forget the creative world exists. Turn off all creative thinking and enjoy the flowers.

Yep Dave, that is what I do with my Mac based Avid. II then network over to my PC and convert to MPG2 for use in my Adtec players, and for all the other Harrah’s (formerly Caesars properties) in Las Vegas. Have never had a problem with compatibility until this guy started doing some work for other entities that use our systems. I get mpg files from all over the country with no problems. We use the DVD compliant settings. The best codec I have found for conversiion into MPG2 from any format I have tried so far, is the Main Concepts used in Vegas Video. Beats the heck out of the one I have for my Priemere Pro.

I was just wondering if anyone else using FCP had come across this problem before.
I tried to talk to the guy about it to find a solution but he became very defensive and uncooperative, so I dropped it immediately.
