I had an HP laptop that overheated routinely. I purchased a USB powered fan and vent system and overheat problems went to zero. https://www.siig.com/silent-tilt-notebook-cooler.html

Held a 17″ laptop that weighed 9lbs no problem.

I have the same problem. WIll not read nor render to Cineform. It says no compatible codec found.

Do either of you have NeoScene installed?

I also looked at manually copying and pasting the cfhd.dll file into vegas like in the past when you installed a player, and it does no good as it looks for the new “compound.dll” from what I gathered over at Sony.

  • The Truth.

Do not cater to what you think I would like to hear since you likely don’t know my business plan.

Say what you do and realize that while you need a job, you also would like to be hired by the right person. An interview is truly a two way process.

The Truth…. Did I already mention that?

July 3, 2010 at 2:07 pm in reply to: Vegas refuses to render – memory problems?

We have had the same problem for some time with a variety of files, but we have never had as much trouble as of late. Various render issues failing at different points in the process. Sometimes a specific memory error message will pop-up, sometimes it will give a generic Vegas has encountered an error, and other times Vegas will simply shut down. All very stressing to say the least.

The machine in question is a windows 7 64bit with i7-930 and 6GB of ram (problem also occurs on a Vista 64bit q6600 and 8GB of ram). We have tried lowering preview ram to zero, setting render threads to zero, and we never seem to find a fix.

Our usual workaround involves rendering to intermediates (regardless of the original footage type) in multiple sections and then rerendering to our final format.

While this is not ideal in anyway, it can get a file out if a deadline is approaching. The reason to render to the intermediate (Cineform *.AVI) is not for the 4:2:2 colorspace, but rather the file closes as it progresses in the render process. If an mpg2 or mp4 file doesn’t completely render, there is no usuable information left. The intermediates normally keep what has been rendered so far and are usable. We have had exceptions to this pop-up so it’s not a 100% workaround. If you attempt to render a 5 minute video and it crashes 1 minute in, you should have 1 minute of rendered video. Place that on your timeline above the original clips and then render the next few minutes repeating the same procedure.

After all is said and done you’ll have renders of varying lengths that will eventually equal your entire video length. Usually this will render. Yesterday while attempting this horrible workaround it would render out the intermediate, but would not render a complete *.mpg or *.mp4 as needed. We placed the “section renders” onto a new copy of Vegas and were able to render as needed.

It’s a miserable process that sometimes we have to go through. Otherwise we would simply switch to another program. Love Vegas, not loving the render errors.

MainConcept MP4. You didn’t state what the desired output was for, but MP4 is a good bet. As for rendering times, depends on your computer. Maybe taking it down from best to good and single pass instead of double. Good luck.

    Mike,
I never would have found it because I never use the trimmer. It automatically turns it on when you update to 8.0c. Thanks.

November 23, 2008 at 5:11 am in reply to: Long Render – Now NO RENDER!

I’ve been doing several HD projects (Final output for web and BD in both 720P and 1080i) and Vegas crashes over and over. My fix/work around was to render to HDV (my source was XH-A1 in 30f) 1080i progressive template as an AVI (cineform codec 2.8 or 3.3). The part that matters is the following.
#1 Resave your project with a new title and call it ????RenderSections
    in it’s own folder.
#2 Attempt to render the the AVI (other wrappers won’t work for this AFIK)
#3 When the render stops open your render folder and place the rendered portion of the timeline on to a new top track (to the frame of source material)
#4 Repeat rendering from end of rendered material to end numbering 1,2,3,until timeline is rendered.
#5 Render final project from the intermediates.
#6 Send hate mail to Sony for making simple task PITA.
#7 Finish project and start on next.

AVI files will crash, but they close themselves (unlike MPG or MP4) and the rendered portion will be fine to use. This is my current work flow until sony gets off their behind.

Initially i thought the two files weren’t attaching either when making menu based Blurays. After clicking on the menu screen and having the menu go into the actual video the audio loaded. try it.

I wouldn’t compare the NLE to the hammer. Any hammer will do. Do you really want to stop what your doing every 10 minutes to explain where a basic function is? Knowing FCP or Adobe is great, but it’s the details that make the difference.
