[Chad Brewer] “Hey Chad, (I’ve never said that to anyone except myself :))”

Chad.. it’s not something I’m proud of LOL.. but it gets the job done. I have a Kona LHI card and it’s great but my raid is not up to snuff so in the mean time it works. I got it to work by capturing in small increments but I’ll heed the advice if I have to go this route again.. hopefully not too many more times.I love capturing with timecode because I can consolidate the projects with Media manager when I’m done and and rebatch If I ever have to visit them later. Thanks again

    [Jeremy Donaldson]
What timeline settings would be best for working with both types of footage?”

Whenever I’ve used the combo of 720 and 1080 with Canon footage. I work at 1080. Once all the native footage has been transcoded to pro-res the 720p footage cross-converted to 1080 actually holds up pretty well.

[chris thompson] “the audio coming through seems abnormally hot, creating over-modulation & crackling/popping. It sounds consistently bad”

Are you using any mp3 audio in your timeline because I often experience this with my LHI when using mp3’s for temp music during rough cuts. Once I receive the mixed aiff’s I have no issues. I’ve also read in these forums that from time to time fcp doesn’t like wave files either.

None of these are going to work for those file sizes.. you need to be runinng something like this https://www.caldigit.com/store.asp#HDOne
    to manage those file sizes.

You have to convert to a robust codec of some sort. H.264 is not an efficient codec to work with. It’s good for acquisition not post.

I usually use the black and code function in FCP just out of convenience.I don’t do a ton of layoffs and i’m usually doing 30 sex spots, so i do right before I layoff to tape

FCP does not like .WAV files but you can sometimes get away with it. It certainly doesn’t like compressed audio formats like AAF’s or MP3’s. I recently had a project where the temp music was sent as .mp3’and the I had random pops all over the timeline. convert the .wav’s to AIFF’s and stay away from the AAF files.
