Lumberjack looks really nice for shoots that don’t have a clear script. And even those projects that do have a script, it could be useful.

Is this still the only app that can be used in the field to log shoots as they are going on?

I do not have PS CC installed. We are doing our best to stay away from the monthly fee.

I was not editing my PNGs when it would happen so I can only blame it on X and Ken Burns. 🙂 I was wondering if it had anything to do with 300 dpi or the size of the files. 7 used to have odd issues with those things. I would guess that X doesn’t care though.

Just yesterday I started having this same problem. I have PNGs with Ken Burns moves on them and randomly they will zoom way in. Changing the spacial conform settings do not make them go back to normal. My quick fix was to zoom out to 38%. But later I opened the project and found those clips really small.

I am working with Photoshop CS 5.1 though my PNGs originated as a PDF book which I exported out of Preview at 4650×2850 300dpi.

February 18, 2015 at 5:59 pm in reply to: Best Shared Storage for FCPX

I am talking with a few companies about shared storage. Two of the systems that have been proposed are

    Ardis Technologies’ DynamicDrivePool (DDP) https://www.dynamicdrivepool.com

    GB Labs’ Spaces https://www.gblabs.com

Are these good options for FCPX and 5ish users cutting HD and 4K stuff?

December 4, 2014 at 2:00 am in reply to: Surround Stems in Compound

I have roles all set up (dialogue, music, effects) and have labeled the surround stems appropriately. Roles help me when exporting, but not while editing.

I would like to have one clip with three stereo audio tracks attached so I can turn off dialogue or music as needed. I also love the idea of compound clips so I can swap out something (say dialogue) easily and not have to re-make my clip. But so far compound clips only seem to work correctly when attached to a parent video clip making it easy to slip things out of sync.

I did find that making a multiclip out of four compounds (video, dialogue, music, effects), gave me the functionality I need, but my machine could not play it consistently.

I also have found that if I export the audio roles as a multitrack quicktime and bring it back in, I can sync-clip it to the video compound clip and get the same functionality. However, then I loose the ability to swap out a vo line easily like I can if sync-clip worked with my compound clips.

I would really like to set this up correctly, because after I create this trailer, I will be making more marketing videos from the documentary footage and want things to be as quick and painless as possible.

March 19, 2014 at 7:38 pm in reply to: New FCPX to AE script

Thank you for this script Philip. It is going to be a big help.

    Questions:

    • To get the script to work I had to save it on the root of my bootup drive. Is that normal? When I tried to run the script off my desktop I got an error showing the desktop path followed by the path to the file. But when I saved the script at the root of my bootup drive it would work correctly.
    • I did notice that v8 only takes the storyline. Is this correct?

  • Our shared storage finally died so we started using local storage to edit, then at night syncing our drives with GoodSync (or in the day if we need to share something). Yesterday I tested syncing FCPX Libraries with GoodSync. It worked well. I wonder if you could use this method to “move” your libraries to the SAN throughout the day?

Yes, the zoom tool does the trick, but it isn’t as fast as a key command. Bummer.
