Our company has been using local storage (synced at night) but is about to start a large project that will require shared storage. What is the best solution for 32+ TB and 4-5 editors working together?

Is there anything that uses Mac Formatted drives? We do not need to work with PCs. We will also be using the new Mac Tubes with thunderbolt.

What are you guys using now for shared storage? If you could do it over today, what would you get? Why?

Last week we installed and tested a new shared storage system for 10 client stations at Metronome Productions in Copenhagen. The system running on a Mac server was configured and optimized by Bob Zelin, and I can say he is a genius. We get great continuous speeds and zero to no latency, even when collaborating with multiple editors simultaneously on the same project. And, equally important, the price for this system was lower than we had budgeted. In a few weeks I am going to publish a detailed article about this setup on FCP.co. If you cannot wait that long you are welcome to e-mail me for more information: ronnycourtens(at)mac(dot(com).

Bob’s great- we do this sorta stuff too. The quality/speed varies greatly with shared storage. Though luckily at 5 editors you’re in the sweet spot where you can go with a souped NAS over gigabit ethernet rather than needing to invest in the extra costs and infrastructure of a full-blown fibre channel solution.

I am talking with a few companies about shared storage. Two of the systems that have been proposed are

    Ardis Technologies’ DynamicDrivePool (DDP) https://www.dynamicdrivepool.com

    GB Labs’ Spaces https://www.gblabs.com

Are these good options for FCPX and 5ish users cutting HD and 4K stuff?
