I haven’t actually. I will certainly give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion. Also, I’ve always used Software Update to upgrade, but I’m hearing it’s better to download straight from Apple’s website. Any thoughts?

The new sequence is created at DV NTSC 48Khz. The following settings apply to each new sequence created; i’d imagine they’re correct.

Aspect Ratio- NTSC DV (3:2) with a frame size of 720×480, of course
Pixel Aspect Ratio- NTSC CCIR 601/DV (720×780)…have no idea what all that means
Field Dominance- Lower
QT Settings- DV/DVCPEO-NTSC at 100%
Video Processing- Render in 8 bit YUV

Hope that’s the info you were looking for. The interesting thing is that the squeezing only happens to some of my 4:3 clips while the others remain correct. My only guess is that FCP 5 has issues importing clips into a project with both formats (My projects I combine contain both XL2 footage at 16:9 and XL1 footage at 4:3). So maybe it’s trying to “correct” footage that doesn’t need correcting. I don’t know. Thanks for your help and interest.

Yeah, I had already read that before I posted. My problem seems to be the opposite. The viewer is taking a 4:3 clip and forcing it into an anamorphic format. I’m not talking about a black letterbox, I mean the viewer is interpreting it as anamorphic and squeezing it between the gray area of the viewer. The distortion settings are the same as any of the properly displayed 4:3 clips. In addition, they properly display on my NTSC monitor. I’m dumbfounded. But thank you for your suggestion on reading the previous post. Any others?

Thank you much for your suggestion. As far as the 4 pixel blur goes, what type of blur do you suggest as there are many different types? Now if this is a problem with DV compression, would I not be getting the same problem within Final Cut? If I use Final Cut’s chroma keyer, my edges look smooth as can be (just not the best color pull). I didn’t know if I was doing something wrong in route to AE. ANyway, thank you very much for your reply. The Cow Community rocks!
