I’ve looked in compressor. I couldn’t seem to find any settings related to MP3s. That would be perfect though.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve discovered. iTunes may do the trick, but it I’ve found it isn’t convenient. You do have to go hunting for the files, especially when you’ve got 2000 other tracks in your library, and in addition to not being able to truly customize your settings, it applies encoder information to the end of the file name. I then have to go in and change my file names to reflect my paths in the the web learning. This tends to kill productivity. So while I do appreciate all the tips on using iTunes, I’m looking for some sort of stand-alone encoder that will simply take my wavs, encode to mp3 and put them exactly where their wave counterparts live, without altering the names. Sorenson Squeeze, for example, is what my boss used on his PC. Worked beatifully. Thank you all for your input, and hopefully we can continue to find that holy grail of mp3 encoders.

Actually, I think transferring to the FW 800 LaCie drive did the trick. All of my other settings people had suggested were already in place. I’ve now set the same project up on the LaCie, and presto! Thanks for all of the help.

Unfortunately the drive it’s on is a Hitachi Deskstar. External, 7200 RPM, ATA/IDE, FW 400 connection. I could transfer it to a LaCie FW 800 though, if you think that will help. The footage is miniDV. Standard 720×480.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am kind of looking for that beam of light that serves as the source of the spotlight, but my client isn’t expecting it. I will definitely give this a go. Thank you much for the advice/technique.

I had a similar issue where I was using both 4:3 footage from a Canon XL1s and 16:9 from an XL2. I did the latter that you mentioned which was create a 4:3 sequence and put both the anamorphic and standard into it. There is no loss of quality. You just have to do a quick render of the anamorphic footage so that it WILL display at full quality. Then, just add your letterbox matte to your standard footage to match your anamorphic. That’s what I did. Hope it helps.
