Woes of combining projects
I use FCP 5 with QT 7. I posted a while back about my 4:3 clips being squeezed into anamorphic format. This had happened after I had combined one project with another. For some reason, FCP was misinterpreting some of my 4:3 footage. Anywho, although it was extremely annoying, no real harm done. A quick de-checking of the anamorphic box in the logging info turned all of them back to normal. I saved it and went on about my business. A week or so later, I’ve combined the project with another and it has done the same thing!!! Turned all of those 4:3 clips into anamorphic again. Has this happened to anyone else, or am I the only crazy one that’s discovered this problem? What’s the deal!?!?

When you create a new project file, what are the presets for the sequence that comes along with it? I’m doing much the same all the time with DV or uncompressed etc… and never see this problem…?

The new sequence is created at DV NTSC 48Khz. The following settings apply to each new sequence created; i’d imagine they’re correct.
Aspect Ratio- NTSC DV (3:2) with a frame size of 720×480, of course
Pixel Aspect Ratio- NTSC CCIR 601/DV (720×780)…have no idea what all that means
Field Dominance- Lower
QT Settings- DV/DVCPEO-NTSC at 100%
Video Processing- Render in 8 bit YUVHope that’s the info you were looking for. The interesting thing is that the squeezing only happens to some of my 4:3 clips while the others remain correct. My only guess is that FCP 5 has issues importing clips into a project with both formats (My projects I combine contain both XL2 footage at 16:9 and XL1 footage at 4:3). So maybe it’s trying to “correct” footage that doesn’t need correcting. I don’t know. Thanks for your help and interest.
