  • Thanks for your quick reply Setiawan but I’d rather not transcode the audio part in AAC (loss of quality) just to be able to open the video in Vegas. Isn’t there another solution ? Extracting the tracks to open them separately on Vegas is what I currently do but it’s a very tedious task if I have to do it every time.

PS : Although the video is not standard, I am able to play it without any problem on VLC or MPC-HC.

Hey Jaroslav, I don’t know if you will read this but I just want to thank you for your AWESOME guide on how to convert 1080i25 to high quality 1080p50 without deinterlacing ! I wish I read your message earlier, it would have saved me from making hundreds of meh quality deinterlaced 1080p25 videos 🙁 Now, I use your technique and render to 1080p50 with Lagarith, then I reencode the huge file to x265 with Handrake. The final video is low size and VERY HIGH quality.

    Thanks again Jaroslav !

  • hope it gets fixed

  • Here’s the video that locks up Sony Vegas Pro 13 build 453 (it’s the latest version) and probably all previous versions :
    https://www.lehit.com/temp/ThisVideoLocksUpSVP13build453.zip

It was created with Sony Vegas Pro 13 build 453 but when I load it, it locks up.

It was rendered with these parameters :

    CODEC :

    Main Concept AVC/AAC (*.mp4)

    VIDEO :

    Include Video : CHECKED
    Codec : Main Concept
    Frame Size : 1440×1080
Allow Source to Adjust Frame Size : UNCHECKED
    Profile : High
    Frame rate : 25,000 (PAL)
Allow Source to Adjust Frame Rate : UNCHECKED
Field Order : Upper Field First
    Pixel Ratio : 1,333
Number of Reference Frames : 2
    Use Deblocking Filter : CHECKED
    Variable Bit Rate :
    > 2 Pass : CHECKED
    > Maximum Bps : 20 000 000
    > Average Bps : 10 000 000
Number of slices : 4 (default)
Encode Mode : Render using CPU Only
    Enable Progressive download : CHECKED

    AUDIO :

    Include Audio : CHECKED
    Sample rate : 44 100
    Bit rate : 128 000

    MEDIA INFO :

  • Danny Hays, thanks for your input !

I hope they fix this very annoying bug one day :-((( It’s not as if I had used weird encoding parameters so I think that quite a lot of people who use Main Concept have the same problem …

Even when I render the video using the latest Sony Vegas 13 (build 453), and try to load it, it hangs.

What’s weird is that the video was created using Sony Vegas, yet Sony Vegas can’t read it. I hope I can get my hands on the older version SVP12 build 367. Thanks again Danny !

EDIT : The video that I attached to my first message doesn’t lock up on Sony Vegas 13 (build 453). But another one, that I will upload in a minute, does.
EDIT 2 : it locks up on Sony Vegas Pro 12 build 770 too.

  • Hello, just to say that actually the problem has not been fixed. It’s still present in the latest Vegas Pro 13 (build 453) 🙁

It’s a great bugfix release for me because it fixes a bug I’ve been experienced for over 6 months were Sony Vegas would hang when importing a video that was rendered with the same software using the Main Concept codec ( https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/24/973303 )

    2.0 What’s New
    Notable fixes/changes in version 13.0 (build 373)

    * Vegas Pro 13 can now open Movie Studio 13 project files.
    * Added support for rendering XAVC HD (1920×1080) video in 50i and 59.94i formats.
    * Fixed a bug that could cause Vegas Pro to crash during startup on some machines that have JRiver Media Center installed.
    * Fixed a bug that could cause Vegas Pro to crash when using File > Import > Import Media from Project.
    * Fixed a bug that could cause Vegas Pro to crash on some computers when expanding the HitFilm plug-ins in the Video FX window.
    * Fixed a bug that could cause Vegas Pro to crash when dragging some audio plug-ins from the Plug-In Manager to audio events.
    * Fixed a bug that could cause Vegas Pro to hang when playing some H.264 MP4 video files.
    * Fixed a bug that could create a loop region when attempting to multiselect locked events using shift-click.
    * Fixed a bug that could cause the Project Media window to scroll unexpectedly when right-clicking an event and choosing Select in Project Media List.
    * Fixed a bug that prevented timecode from being read for Panasonic P2 clips that span multiple files.

  • Better late than ever. Looks like the problem has been fixed with the latest release of Sony Vegas Pro 13 (build 373) :

So far, I have only tested a few videos that were freezing, they seem to work fine now.

  • I have “Import stereo as dual mono” UNCHECKED too.

  • Same here Norman ! When I convert to .mxf, Stereo sound turns into Mono !
And not only in Handbrake but also in VLC.

@Mike : Just download this small Stereo file https://www15.zippyshare.com/v/38446323/file.html and render it with “Sony MXF (*.mxf) > HD 1440×1080-50i” on Sony Vegas Pro 13. Play the rendered video with VLC and you’ll see that the sound becomes mono (same if you attempt to render it with handbrake). Now render the source file with any “XDCAM EX (*.MP4)” template and the stereo will remain.

If you don’t get the same result as Norman and me, then you are probably using a different Version of Vegas.

Thanks again to Norman for his help, I had never noticed that *.mxf files had problems with stereo.
