December 1, 2009 at 11:53 pm in reply to: Canon HFS11 not showing up in log and transfer. Error message “invalid directory structure”Hi Jeff,
I ran an update check in the software update application of my mac, and installed a “pro applications” update, which updated it to 6.0.5…
Which works!
Thanks for the info though, I’d tried everything so it had to be a problem with the software itself… The shonky guy who sold it to me TOLD me it would work in FCP6. Grr.. But no harm done 😀

All good 🙂
Moral of the story: keep software up to date!!
Thanks for your help anyway

I’ve tried that and I get the same message… After reading a little more about this, I’m starting to suspect that my version of FCP is too old to deal with this kind of file (AVC HD) I’m using FCP 6.0… do you know if it’s compatible?
There is an update sitting in my software updates at the moment.. I’m going to try and install that and see if anything changes.
Otherwise, is there a plugin or something I could add to FCP to make it work? Don’t really want to spend another pile of money for the next version.
Though, iMovie (what I’ve been using today) is really rather frustrating.
Thanks

I’m having the same problem, except with the HFS11.
Did you end up working this out?
If not, nould you explain a few of the workarounds you mentioned, I’d like to give them a go 🙂

November 30, 2009 at 9:53 pm in reply to: Canon HF10 – AVCHD :: Not showing up in Log and TransferI’m having exactly the same problem… Do you know how you got it to work?
I’m using final cut pro 6.0 with a HFS11, it shows up on the desktop as a little orange hard drive, but when I click log and transfer there is nothing in the window where my videos should be sitting.
When I click the “add folder” button and add the canon disk I get a message: “CANON” has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.
I wish it would all just WORK!
Thanks

Hey, thanks for your reply… I have managed to figure it out myself… Partly (lol.)
Turns out, I was trying to capture HDV footage with my Final Cut sequence presets on DV… they weren’t talking to each other.
I wanted to capture the project in HDV, but they still weren’t working, even after I changed the sequence presets/ final cut file presets to HDV.
Turns out, I had to tell the camera to stop outputting HDV, and “dumb it down” to DV and keep my FCP file stuff in DV. This involved reading the manual (which I believe, is a direct translation from Icelandic) With everything set to DV, I was able to capture.
This is where the “partly” part comes in.
Once I captured, I dragged the files down in my timeline to chop them up, and edit but there was no sound.
I fiddled some more with the audio settings. But just could not work it out.
In the end, I closed pro and dragged the files into express from the capture scratch folder. The sound worked and I edited the stupid bugger in express.
Do you have any idea why my sound wasnt working in Pro?
Gah.
So much for my $2000!And yes, you are very right. I should learn video.
Maybe you have a suggestion as to where I could find some info on the various formats?Cheers,
Cath
