Canon HF10 – AVCHD :: Not showing up in Log and Transfer

I just got a HF10 and had some issues getting it to show in FCP 6.0.5.

I finally got it working. The camera may need to be powered down and unplugged if the camera does not mount as a drive the first time(s). Don’t worry about unplugging the usb cable. I just did it about 20 times when it said not to.

Eventually the camera will show up, mounted as a drive. Open it up and see if you can browse the folders. When you are able to browse the folders then you can do a shift+command+8 and log and transfer.

I am not to happy about it converting to AppleProRes by default nor the secondary option of Apple Intermediate Codec as they are both way larger than the original files.

If I wanted a GB per minute I would have saved up for a bloody HPX-170. Part of my reasoning for getting this camera was that it takes up less space than Mini DV.

Picture looks amazing, far better than our XL2! I am talking about definition not all the other stuff. I am really itching for a HMC-150 but again if all this AVCHD footage is going to be upconverted into AppleProRes 1GB/minute then why not just get a HPX-170 and be done with it?

I am trying to get files imported into Final Cut Pro Suite 2 (6.0.5), but nothing shows up in Log & Transfer. The disk mounts nicely on the desktop and I can access all the folders. I have tried pulling all the different folders into the L&T tool, but nothing happens. Its blank.

What settings are you using on the cam? Interlaced or progressive? What bitrateare you using? Will L&T understand different bitrates, different modes of interlaced / progressive in the same folder, or must all be the same. I have only two files in the dir. They are recorded at 12Mbps. And I just don’t get it…

Thanks all of you. Actually, it somehow just worked on my laptop MacBook Pro. Guess it could have had something to do with Tiger/Leopard, but I don’t know. I even reinstalled Final Cut on the machine without any improvements. Any experiences with Tiger vs Leopard?

I’m having exactly the same problem… Do you know how you got it to work?

I’m using final cut pro 6.0 with a HFS11, it shows up on the desktop as a little orange hard drive, but when I click log and transfer there is nothing in the window where my videos should be sitting.

When I click the “add folder” button and add the canon disk I get a message: “CANON” has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.

I wish it would all just WORK!
