  • Cannot Import footage from Canon HFS100

I have so far been unable to import footage from a Canon VIXIA HFS100. I keep receiving this error message:

“Contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.”

Basically, I cannot get Log and Transfer to import my media. I have tried copying the contents of the SDHC card to my RAID, I have tried putting the SDHC card into a card reader, I have tried connecting the camera via USB – all to no avail.

I have searched everywhere here and on the Apple FCP pages. I have seen a lot of other people having the same problem, I have seen a lot of workarounds, and I have tried every one of the suggestions without any luck yet.

In the past I have been able to use Log and Transfer to import P2 footage but have never tried to import AVCHD footage from an SDHC card.

I am using FCP 7.0 and OS 10.5.8.

    Any thoughts?

Have you tried using FW instead of USB? Or maybe FW isn’t an option with AVCHD ?

The Canon VIXIA HFS100 only has USB.
I have even tried not using the camera and importing from a card reader without any luck.

I’m going to shoot some stuff with my Panasonic TM-300 soon, which also shoots AVCHD. I’ll post my results back later. Good luck in the meanwhile. Btw, I read somewhere that copying your material to your hard-drive and then ingesting them in FCP may help. Try it if you haven’t already.. 🙂

Yep – tried it. See my original post.

I was wondering if you solved your problem? I’m thinking about getting the same camera and was wondering if it was canon implementation of avchd or something else.

    Thanks

I imported some AVCHD footage from my Panasonic TM-300 into FCP 6.0.1 today. Just opened “Log and Transfer” and imported the entire folder of .MTS files. The trick for me was to copy the whole thing onto my local drive (all the folders, not just the .MTS folder). Then import that folder in FCP and you’re good to go! 🙂

I’m having the same problem, except with the HFS11.

Did you end up working this out?

If not, nould you explain a few of the workarounds you mentioned, I’d like to give them a go 🙂

How do you copy the footage from your camera to your Hard Drive? I also have a Canon HFS 100 and FCP 6.0.1 and am having the same problems of not being able to import the footage to FCP.

I did download that software but I don’t see any conversion into Pro Rez

    Have you tried doing this??

It seems that the “easiest” way to import is via iMovie. I know…. I have the HFS200 and finally gave up on a direct import into FCE4. Importing into iMovie (Which Canon recommends when you call for support)is direct and easy. Just set on HD, full rez. This is my first import with this camera so I have to assume the process would be refined as I go. It’s very easy to scroll through the clips and mark rejects. You can also right click and “reveal in finder” and command del any clips you want to send to the trash right away. when you’re done, you can send the rejects to the trash, open up the finder and drag and drop the .mov files to FC. I then name the clips, set rough in and out markers then settle down to some real editing. Pretty straight forward really.
