Other than unplugging it and letting it rest for a few minutes… 15 or so…
This is sometimes called the chicken dance or guiness procedure. Leave it unplugged just long enough to enjoy a frosty bev or do the chicken dance.

Oh– you have anything in the CD drive? Hold the mouse button down to open the drawer… maybe while you’re at it, put the system drive in there and hold down the C key on startup.

Did you import it to Avid yet? Or are you watching it in a Quicktime Player?
If you are watching it in QT you’ll see the black background… when you import it to Avid it will be transparent.

You aren’t going to find too many deals on FCP. Your best bet is sometimes when you buy a CPU you’ll get Studio for $999 us.
Not sure any one else will be better off. I’d suggest buying a version less than 5 from eBay, but it won’t work on your machine anyway… though you could then (if you found a v4 copy) upgrade it to full Universal suite for about another $200 — if that saves you money.

Right… that is the problem. You need to bring it to the viewer… here’s how:
Once the nest is in the timeline, Control-Click and you’ll get a contextual menu… choose send to viewer. OR you can select the nest and hit the ENTER key on your numeric keypad.
Then once it’s in the viewer you can adjust the motion tab.

It’s by nesting the 4:3 sequence into a 16:9 one.
Here’s a video tutorial that will help, but it’s not exactly what you are trying to do…
Remember when you’ve got a sequence nested in the new sequence you’ll need to control-click to load it into your viewer… or hit the ENTER key on your numeric keypad.

The three way color corrector is a great tool in combination with the color correcting window setup in FCP. You can match colors across two different clips and check them against each other… There’s a little line on your scopes that shows where flesh tones SHOULD be and you can isolate a section of flesh and drag your colors around until you get there…
It’s all covered VERY well in the manual. Better than anyone can explain it here without spending hours.

You MIGHT want to try ripping it as an mpeg2 and audio file… this might save the quality. Then rebuild it in DVDSP by adding a story marker pointing to the song you need to insert.
