I just completed a DVD project, just prior to a major melt down of my harddrive causing me to lose everything, But the bright spot is I have the final DVD done, the problem is, I need to insert a song/video into the project, now the only way I see that I can do this is to rip the dvd cut it up insert the missing song and reasemble, the problem is when I re-render the files I lose quality, can anyone give me a quick answer to this, please,

  • No other way except to rip the DVD files, or capture the DVD from a player as an analog source.

Better by far would be to recreate your project using a new hard drive.

If you “can’t”, your’re going to have to live with the DVD source.

You MIGHT want to try ripping it as an mpeg2 and audio file… this might save the quality. Then rebuild it in DVDSP by adding a story marker pointing to the song you need to insert.

Why not recapture from your original project file. Don’t tell me that the only version lived on the fried HD! 😉 If so, another reason to back up project files to iDisk or the like.

MPEG Streamclip is a free app that will help you do what you need. I used it recently when the only source was a DVD of a corporate project. I used the 8-bit uncompressed codec and was amazed at the quality. I got much more that I expected. https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
