    Hi everyone,
I am new to this site but plan to visit regulary. I am an editor/cameraman for outdoor television and am very comfortable with avid, but I just bought a new macbook pro (intel., 1.83, 2Gram) just to get my feet wet, because I’m hearing apple is where I need to be heading in my profession. Purchasing fcp is next on my list and I’m wondering where can I get the most for my money? I’ve seen fcp’s that come with tutorials etc. Can anyone help me……

    Thanks!

You aren’t going to find too many deals on FCP. Your best bet is sometimes when you buy a CPU you’ll get Studio for $999 us.

Not sure any one else will be better off. I’d suggest buying a version less than 5 from eBay, but it won’t work on your machine anyway… though you could then (if you found a v4 copy) upgrade it to full Universal suite for about another $200 — if that saves you money.

    Good luck,

    CaptM

You mention buying an older version of FCP on eBay, then using Apple’s upgrade program. Do I need to install the old version, which may not run on my new Macbook Pro, and then reinstall with the new version? Does Apple send a whole new set of discs?

I am not familiar with how the Apple crossgrade program works. Any help?

You don’t need to have the older version installed. Just make sure you’re buying a legitimate version of the application and that the ownership and license is being transferred to you. Most of the software sales on eBay are illegal copies.

    All the best,

    Tom
