Not really — other than careful logging of what was shot and how.

This is fairly common… though I don’t get a half second… maybe more than a few frames…
Make sure your VIEW settings have matched audio to video. So when your video is only showing on the computer your audio is coming thru the computer and when video is going external — make the audio go external.
I send both to a mixer and just switch ins when I change my video.

I did a (for me,) MONSTER AE effect for an end of a Military video I produced. This effect sits at the end of my FCP sequence. Well — our bosses want to show this thing to every General that comes on base and, of course, personalize it to them. So I have to change a single 3d name in the midst of these 10 precomps, 15 additional layers, cameras and lights — well, it only took me ONCE to realize that if I can just set the work area to the change and render that out.
BUT — after 3 times doing that – still a hefty render – I did one final render turning off some of the layers and rendering it out 3 times with Alphas. The Names sit on the middle layer now in FCP and when I need it changed, I just render out that name from that layer and it goes VERY quick.
I know that’s a little different than making a mistake… but it did make me think about the way I compose and organize all my future AE messes.

I use invigorator all the time. I think it might have come free only with the Pro version of 6 (or 6.5) I assume it comes with 7 also — at least when I bought Pro6 it came with and I’ve been using it ever since. With that version you don’t HAVE to bring in text from Illustrator — there is a text generator built-in too.
Other ‘free’ options… Blender? You can get a demo of Cinema4d I think that will work for a few days or so… better dbl check that and see if you can actually export though. But for ease of use with simple texturing and beveling, check out Zaxwerks… great products.

As said above… your two options are to either let the TV handle the video itself with black bars on the side (vertical letterboxing) or sometimes there’s an option on the TV to only squeeze out the outside 20% of the video to fill the 16:9. Looks goofy until you get used to it.
OR — handle it yourself and take a small hit on quality. BUT if you’re going to DVD it won’t matter much.

Check this out…
FCP vs Shake
The footage was 24pA off a dvx100 with the pulldown removed — so it’s moving at 23.98.
I brought it into FCP and slowed it to 50% adn then moved it to Shake and slowed it to .5 (50%)
This is the full clips, plus a Common node at the end where the black shows what’s NOT in common between the two clips.

(give it a chance… lost the fast load tag)In THIS clip… I set it to change between clips every two frames. What you’ll notice is the white truck in the background during the interpolated frames… remember, 50% is 1 true frame, 1 interpolated frame…
