I think you’re right on the first one. Separate actions, import the clips and then use ffmpeg or another tool to merge them.
I don’t think Worker can process a sequence like that way. (I could be wrong.) I’ve never done that in the Worker.
It might be a case where your users have to export an XML of the Sequence into a drop folder and then use that XML to do the export. If we were brought that, that’s how we’d handle it most likely.

Lee, doing some research here. Would you want this “wide open” meaning no login, or would users log in to view?
Also, would you need more than one instance of this, meaning would you have one URL for one catalog and then another URL for another, if needed?
I’m doing some casual research on how people might use the API in its simplest form.

This is exactly what the web client with the new API is for.
You can create different web interfaces for views into the database.
You will need to buy web client licenses for each user that logs in (concurrent users) but beyond that you should be able to program to your hearts content.
We’re really excited to see what sorts of things we can cook up with this new functionality.

CatDV runs in Java.
I’m gonna go on a limb and say, for right now til Apple and Oracle get it all sorted that Java updates should be checked with Support to be safe. It’s a rough time for Java on OS X.

Ingest into a MAM is a strange thing. Most, including CatDV have no support for versioning (that’s where Focal Point and other solutions come in.)
In a MAM, if you import something again, it imports again. CatDV is ignoring items where the metadata matches, but if it’s changed, like the modified date, it assumes that you have a new asset and brings it in again. This is not just a “catdv” thing, it’s common in most DAM/MAM systems. Better safe, get it several times, than sorry, and ignore a file that you critically need.
This is why, in most workflows, we try to keep users from managing “project” or in-progress files until the edit is done. It’s simply too hard to manage versioning unless you’re going to rename each version (As is a general best practice.)
Scan for new items is a great option but in some cases, a change will make something “new”, as most people would hope. An edited psd is a new asset/version in my book but without moving the asset as you would in a true versioning workflow, you can’t have 2 assets for the versions, only 2 clips or sets of metadata.
In automated workflows we try not to watch a live folder. We try to ingest from a watch and then move into the editing storage area. Managing new assets manually is hard, it’s best to ingest them into CatDV as they are brought into the directory.
Hope some of these ideas help, I imagine Robb’s answer is what you’re looking for but I got inspired to address this by your post as it’s a common misconception about images in particular. Video doesn’t really change during an edit but .psd’s and projects are constantly a “new” file as we save.

One other issue, it’s a completely different license (since it’s about twice the price of Enterprise) so even with the installer, there’s a need for a new license code unlike other betas.

This is a mount point issue with your OS. you can sometimes mount a volume via two methods and the second mount will be named “-1” as you see.
Check in your /Volumes folder (on a mac type command-g and enter /Volumes into the dialog that pops up) and see if there’s perhaps a left over alias in the folder.
Usually a reboot will clear this but sometimes an alias is left (This is very common in xsan/stornext environments.)
If you have a ton of data that got cataloged this way, you can simply set an equivalent path in your prefs, but it’s best to edit the paths if you can, since automations can fail if the correct path isn’t recorded.

Just use Premiere to make an h.264 mp4 proxy and archive away. Or some people create a mezzanine file (prores?) and then edit from that.
AVCHD is a tough one in a lot of workflows.
