Contact support before you restore.
That can generally be cleaned up in MySql by a sysadmin. We end up doing this a few times a year generally. (Not on the same system, it’s rare!)

We do it on about half the jobs we do.
And there’s no CLI needed. Worker includes all you need to do this. Variables and if you want to get fancy, regular expressions, can make this happen.
For example, do a file move on a file called movie.mov with “expand variables” selected and set the path to say:
/path/to/folder/$g-$D.mov
And you’ll get /path/to/folder/movie-20130520.mov
This can be very powerful but also has implications in a shop where humans manage things too. Good documentation is important to make sure that users understand that when they do “action x” their file will be renamed. But for ingest and output and all sorts of operations, this is a great thing to have.
Play around, there’s so much power built into the Worker Node. Check out the “help” button in Worker to get all the variables.

I’ve not seen Nesbit for things other than tape management. We have done some transfers where we took a Nesbit Tape library and converted the metadata into CatDV and linked it to files as the tapes were ingested. Not sure why the clients chose to switch though.
Full Disclosure, this was a very old version of Nesbit so maybe the upgrade was never pursued? I have not seen the new offerings from Nesbit.

Hey there,
I’m struggling with explaining this in our training curriculum as I type, timely question.
This is a strange part of CatDV. The “Groups” are usually associated with Catalogs and so it’s hard to manage permissions there as a clip can only live in one catalog and a catalog can only be in one group. So think of group not as a true “user group” but as a group of clips.
“Groups” as most systems would define them, generally map to “Roles” in CatDV. So this way you can control the permissions of a set of people to a set of clips by putting them into Roles.
User is as it sounds.
The hard part is managing giving people different access to clips inside a group. The way I’ve done this is by abandoning the “production” part of “Production Groups”. We mostly use 2-4 groups for a single production. That way we can manage access to assets. For instance if ShowA is the title of the production, we might have:
ShowA-Delivery
ShowA-RAW
ShowA-audio
ShowA-gfxas Production Groups. In this way you can assign different permissions to different asset collections within a “show”.
Adding to this the ability to change the ownership of certain catalogs within those groups and you can end up with a pretty granular matrix.
This is far easier to work out once you have a good set of assets and users in place to experiment with. Also, a flow chart helps once you get your system in place to help others re-create it for a new production.
I’ll let you folks know as we gather this into a more concise printed form as well.

The only way I’ve done what you’re describing is to receive the files together in a directory, with the proxy named “something-proxy”. Then, if you’re putting the hi res away with the Worker, you can easily use a regex to remove the “-proxy” from the name and place the proxy in the correct proxy folder.
This only works if the Worker is moving the file, so it has a pre-defined path to use, or at least one that it’s “aware” of. If you need to proxy a file that’s already in a folder structure…
If you want to drop the files somewhere and have CatDV pick them up and import them, that’s really hard as you’d have to query the database for the path, looked up by filename, which is way harder than just scripting the encoding app via command line.
(Warning – blatant advertisement here. I only include these because they answer the question.)
NSA provides scripts for both Compressor and Telestream’s Episode command line interface through our dealers.
Compressor can be set up without outside scripts so if you’re handy you can probably get that running, or ask your integrator to pitch in. We offer it as a service because some folks don’t wanna suffer through the hassle.
Episode and CatDV Worker Node actually have somewhat opposing variable syntax so we wrote a translation script that enables the Worker and Episode to communicate correctly.
Honestly these systems are difficult to support and could impact other your storage (both need directories created for the files to land in) so I don’t offer them “on the Cow”, (not to mention the hours of dev work that went into them by our staff.)
If someone has a way to determine the correct path to drop a file into the proxy path without a lookup, please post, but we do it through the CLI and if you are interested in the scripts I mention, contact your CatDV Reseller or JB&A rep.

That should get you sorted but you might need some creative thinking to automate getting your logs onto the converted prores and into CatDV.
I’ll offer this but know that it’s unsupported free advice so please don’t hinge your production on something I typed while watching TV with the Wife…
If I were doing it, I might try to flip the workflow to create a prores422 or 422HQ “proxy” and send that to Final Cut Pro. Otherwise, you’ll need to bring the logs over manually and that’s a drag.

It can be moved but it’s way easier just to use the default location.
If you’re not using that original install of MySQL, you can just re-install in the default location and things work fine.
On our systems that use Approval-Q, we install a separate instance of MySql to run the AQ database (for separation and security) with no ill effects.
If you need it configured, it’s hard to find a tech who’s fluent in both to make the necessary adjustments, though I believe the server read me might address it somewhere. I say keep it simple unless you absolutely must share that install of SQL.

Sorry, I left out a “grooming” step.
You have to search for the badly entered info and then replace that data with the correct spelling. Matt’s right, if it picks up the old values, you’ll be resetting the bad picklist values.
If you correct them, that should go away. I’m sure SB will look this over but in the end, whip those loggers when they do it wrong! 😉

It’s not a “cache”, they are written into your database.
You just go to the “Field Definitions” area of the prefs and edit the picklist values for that field.
Most clients normally have to do this a few times a year.
