Alright, thanks Edward. I’m pretty sure I have 4.0.9 however. I’ve never upgraded since I got it. How easy is this to do? Will 4.0.9 transfer over?

I watched Aharon R’s podcast on broadcast colors, and learned a bit from his video, as well as that article. So, thank you.
I suppose in my ideal AE/post producing setup, I would have an NTSC playback monitor hooked up right there to check colors on the fly. In the meantime, I slapped the broadcast safe plugin, and a few color corrections on my anims to make my yellows not look so green. It has appeared to work well.
Another thing I have learned to do is just eyeball it. I transferred my videos to Avid NewsCutter and further color corrected them – on a PC program the colors look a bit different, too, don’t they??
Thanks for the help, guys. Cheers

Those systems look like they work great, but the problem is, I’m on a limited budget, being a college student and all. Seems like most of those things only work on a CRT monitor, and I have an LCD on my laptop.
You mentioned converting the color space… does that mean I should try and convert it in After Effects? Do you think it helped when I put the “broadcast colors” effect on it?

AE doesn’t play audio like Premiere does. As soon as you press “play” in AE, all you can see is video. In order to hear audio you need to go to Composition>Preview>RAM preview.
From there, AE will render your timeline and play it back, sound intact. However, once you mess with things in the composition again, the RAM preview goes away and you won’t be able to hear anything anymore. To my knowledge there is no way to enable audio playback every time you press play.
Does this help?

Thank you – Anyone else? Like I said… the more help, the merrier.
I agree now with your point of “looks like PowerPoint” – I will give the luminance trick a shot, see what I can do.
I agree, the colors are pretty loud. They need to be toned down. What do you think about the OTS or the lower thirds?
Thank you!

Right – I still had the precomp when I imported the PSD into AE, but the idea was to move things around INSIDE the precomp. Rather than have an all new composition, I’d rather just mess with my elements in the comp it provided for me.
One would think two sensible, compatible Adobe programs would work better than this. I suppose not. Thank you for the response!

I was mainly looking for feedback – namely, IF I took the time to post my material I was curious as to wether or not I would recieve feedback. Based on the two replies to my post however, I will be more than happy to post some of my work so far (MOV files, jpg images, whatever fits) for review.
I appreciate it! I’m all about creative criticism and getting better at what I do.

Through my own messing around I seem to have solved my own problem 5 minutes after posting this. So, you may disregard. Thanks!

Hi Jon –
Thanks for the help. I actually figured out another way to do it. In the light wipe settings there are three different “modes” so to speak. I think they are add, subtract, and difference (??)
Anyway, my problem was fixed late last night when I switched the light wipe’s mode. Now the wipe itself looks a little different, but that is something that is only discernible to me, the designer of the package. The black is gone and I am just left with the wipe over top of a logo, which sits in front of the alpha channel. I appreciate the input, but I’m really glad I was able to find a working solution. Thanks

Thanks to all who have responded so far. I will take you guys’ posts into consideration next semester. Right now I plan on making the show open in After Effects 7.0 (because that is the AE version that has Zaxwerks on it). I have AE CS3 on my laptop, which is what I am using to create the OTS and full screen animations.
I am not too sure about the 3D stroke and shine – I will look into getting my hands on a copy of those plugins. What is the best company for those? Trapcode? I could perhaps see using a 3D stroke sparingly for the open. I would like to utilize Zax to the fullest ability; I have already created looping 3D spinning logos to use in the full screen and OTS animations, with good results.
I’d like to use the logo that is linked below. It is our copyrighted graphic for the news program here on campus. Any suggestions on how I can best utilize the dots, or maybe the design of the letters? As designers with previous experience, what would you all do? I have a few ideas of my own…
Thanks a lot, everyone
