You can try loading the blackmagic drivers. That might work.

Blackmagic website -> Support -> Blackmagic Drives for FCP 5.0

    Jedi,

There is so much to learn about the f/900 that it would be impossible to cover in a single post, probably why you have not gotten very many responses. If they have 8 f/900’s then my guess is that they will allready be matched before you get you hands on it. So don’t touch the menu. When shooting run and gun with 900 the two most important things to keep in mind is:

    1) Focus. Check the backfocus of your camera twice a day, morning and non, it can fluxuate with temperature. Focus in extremely important in HD, if you have access to an additional monitor, even a 6 inch LCD to confirm focus, I would recommend that.

    2) Exposure. When in doubt underexpose. Know where you zebras are set on the camera. The 900 has two sets of zebras, and I don’t remember what the factor default is. They may be at 75% and %90. We have our zebras at %70. Generally for run and gun stuff without aid of waveform/vectroscope I’ll hit the %70 zebra and then back off a 1/2 stop. Make sure you ask the DIT what the zebras are set out and then TEST! Learn the zebras. Make sure you are black and white balancing of a true white card. Some guys shirt or a piece of paper is not going to do it. There are two filter wheels, one for your ND filters and one for color temp. If you are outside all day just set your color temp and ND as necessary.

Hope that helps, before you hit the record button think, focus, exposure, white balance, backfocus and you should come out fine.

Was the camera running off of battery or the AC adapter? While the camera does have fans, are they are adjustable, the AC adapter that mounts on the rear of the camera also has a fan which I have found to sometimes rather loud. It has been loud enough that I have had to just go with batteries for some interviews.

  • Hi,

I would not recommend using the Apple 23 inch for color correction, or for that matter any LCD. There is one LCD that sounds promising, the eCinema 23,” but will cost you.

What I have found to be a great solution is the Sony BVM series multiformat monitors. They will automatically switch between HD and SD. You can get a downconverted SD signal out of you Blackmagic HD pro card, and the monitor will automatically detect and change to SD. No color space worries.

The monitors can be precisely calibrated and give reliable results for years. A 14″ will set you back about 5k, a 20″ about 13k. We have a 14″ which has been great, as well as a 45″ Sharp Aquos for the clients.

For color grading and critical viewing, there is no real option besides a CRT.

    Hope this helps,

I don’t believe that the JH-3 has a “remote switch.” There may be some deeply buried menu item that deals with the RS-422, but I don’t think so. I have never had to change anything on my JH-3 since pulling out of the box to get the 422 working. My guess is that it is somewhere else in your pipeline.

    Thanks,

I have this problem playing back the raw footage without any effects, disolves, or anything.

I’ll try turning of image + wireframe and see if that helps.

Any ideas from the Blackmagic folks?

    Thanks,

    Bryan

  • I’ll be looking forward to this problem, this has problem has made our hdlink unusable. Does this just happen with 23.98 footage, I seem to recall that I have had this problem with 29.97 as well.
