Does anybody know where I can download the Panasonic DVCPRO HD (1080i60) codec without buying an entire editing system? (I’m a PC user.) All the usual codec places just don’t have it, and there is no way to do it on the Panasonic website. All I know is that it comes with Final Cut Pro HD, but there seems to be no other way of getting it. All I need to do is view files, not encode them.

You can try loading the blackmagic drivers. That might work.

Blackmagic website -> Support -> Blackmagic Drives for FCP 5.0

    FCP installs the DVCPROHD codec.

You should see if you can get them exported as blackmagic codec
files though. Then view them with the free blackmagic codecs.

    that would work.

But how can I get them exported if I can’t read them with any software? Also, will this codec even work on a PC if I manage to get a hold of it?

What drivers? Am I missing something? I don’t know what you’re talking about. Drivers for what and what do they have to do with the codec?

Have the person that supplied the footage re-export the clips
as blackmagic .mov files. You will not be able to read them as DVDPROHD files.

    get the free codec here:

There is no other way for you to read DVCPRO-HD
on a pc that I am aware of. So the person that GAVE you the
footage needs to convert it for you.

I appreciate the advice. Unfortunately, I can’t do that. I exported the files myself, working on a movie, but I’m not on good terms with the director. Can’t go back there. Too proud. That’s ok. I’ll just wait till I work at a place that has FCP HD and ask if I could do it there. Gotta happen at some point.
