It was digitized from an Edited Master on Digital Beta. Do you know of anyway to get a Digital Beta deck to do 23.98. Because I’m not aware of any deck that does that. Usually, its 29.97 and in that case this other editor who digitized the clip from Digital Beta thru FCP at DV 720 x 480 @ 23.98FPS would have messed up the clip. It should have been digitized at 29.97, so I’m thinking. Interestly enough, I’ve put this clip into a OfflineHD sequence rendered it out and exported as a FCP movie. That seemed to have fixed my out of sync problem. But I don’t think the TC is going to translate in the edl for the finish of this project.

    Thanks for your time,

It was digitized DV 720 x 480 @ 23.98. Thats what FCP says it is and so does QT. QT plays it down just fine. But editing in FCP has been a nightmare all day. The strange thing is I can’t get this clip to play in a 24FPS base in FCP. When I count frames it goes to the 23rd frame then drops the 24th frame and goes to frame 25 – 29. Editing in a 23.98 sequence with this clip was very problematic. Its like FCP is not recognizing that its a 23.98 frame rate.

    Thanks,

This system has a Blackmagic Multi Bridge on it. So still the question is what is the best offline setup for this if I’m ultimately going to finish on this system at 1080p Quicktime file format?

  • I’m sorry after I got over the panic of delivery today. I did a full power cycle and things seem to be working better.

By the way, I had to reset my frame offset after installing the latest drivers. I went from a 4 frame offset to a 6 frame offset. Is that normal?

    Thanks so much,

  • I answered my own question. I had my firewire DA converter on while using the Decklink Extreme to control my Beta SP via Decklinks 29.97 controller. Seems that FCP doesn’t like having both on at the same time. So when I turned off the Sony DA converter box things moved a lot faster for initializing a deck. But the question remains why is it doing this? I haven’t had a problem using both before. Decklink interferes with bringing in firewire source. This seems to be a problem that has poped up in FCP 5.1.4. Any suggestions?
