Thanks for your advice Brian. I decided to try something else before I took your advice. I hate having to reset all of my preferences, and I always try to make that my last ditch effort.

I moved my Knoll Light Factory folder (HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS5.5) to my desktop. Then I restarted AE and deleted the layer that had the Knoll Light Factory effect that was causing the trouble. Then I saved the project, restarted AE, and had no problems. Then I closed AE, returned the LF folder to the original folder and restarted AE.

And I’m good as gold. I figured I share my solution in case anyone else has the same problem.

    Thanks.

Thanks Adam. That’s a relief. And thanks for the Layout – it’s great to see it laid out that way.

Thanks Roland. I’ve officially given up on this concept. I’ve wasted too many hours so far.

I did get a call from Mary at Imagineer. She was great but after experimenting with all of her suggestions, I was unable to get a clean result. I would think this would be a great tutorial for someone to write.

    Thanks for the help.

Aharon – thank you so much for your tutorials. I don’t think I’ve missed a single one.

Good luck with your family. I hope the little tyke inherits your sense of humor!

    Thanks.

Thanks to both of you. Darby – your answer was exactly what I was looking for. Who needs a plug-in? 🙂

    Thanks.

You could duplicate your layers and use a track matte.

    I hope that helps.
