I’ve been noticing this effect a lot lately:
The RGB channels are separated and each channel is slightly warped.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to separate the RGB channels?

I realize that there is a Sapphire plug-in that will do this – but what I’m really getting at is the simple (?) act of separating the color channels manually. Is it possible?

    thanks!

Channel Blur and Set Channel come to mind. Don’t know what you’re looking for exactly. Use the Effects Search for CHANNEL and RGB.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

My favorite effect for splitting up the RGB channels is Channel > Shift Channels.

If you want to split into red, green and blue channels then you need 3 instances of your footage. Then apply Channel > Shift Channels to each of them.

On the top layer switch the Green and Blue channels to ‘Full Off’ leaving only the Red channel. On the next one below it switch the Red and Blue channels to ‘Full Off’ leaving only the Green channel. On the bottom one switch the Red and Green channels to ‘Full Off’ leaving only the Blue channel.

Now you can switch the top 2 of these 3 layers to the ‘Add’ blend mode and your comp should look like the original footage, only you can make any adjustments you want to each of the 3 color channels by adding effects/transforming one of the 3 layers.

Thanks to both of you. Darby – your answer was exactly what I was looking for. Who needs a plug-in? 🙂

    Thanks.
