June 1, 2023 at 4:12 pm in reply to: Upgrade from BETA to STUDIO

Problem solved – but let me warn you what I did wrong.

First thing I did wrong was (accidentally) try to upgrade from 18.5 (the Beta) to the regular Studio version. I didn’t even realize there was a Beta Studio version.

The main thing I did wrong was not understand the Resolve filing system. They hide the project files (which I think is stupid) so you have to use their project window to deal with project files. Make sure you do a backup before you do anything! I was told this morning that it’s a good idea to right-click on a project in the project window and choose to save the PBD file to another place on your hard drive where you can find it.

So don’t be like me – back up everything in Resolve before you do anything and make sure you stay Beta if you started in Beta.

  • I’m glad I’m not the only one who had a problem with this bug. It was driving me nuts. Thanks for the news of an update.

OK – forget the logo. Let me ask this question stripped down to the bare bones. Is there a way to control the dynamic’s final frame. In other words, if I have a floor, and I have an object (a polygon, etc.), can I have the object fall on the floor, bounce a little bit, then land in a position that I control? I realize that this is unnatural and that gravity doesn’t work this way in the real world. But surely there’s a work around to the laws of nature here.

Does that help? Thanks for sticking with me guys.

Exactly what Brian said. No shards, no explosions. I just want the final frame to be the logo in position.

    Does that help? Thanks!

OK – let’s broaden the question. Is it safe to update to Mavericks for any version of R13? Just a little hesitant over here.

    Thanks.

I just figured it out. Thanks for the help. I had animated the “Z Scale” of the extrude nurb all the way down to zero so that the image would appear 2D when it landed. I’ve upped the setting to 0.1 and it looks great.

Thanks Adam – I was sooo hoping that would be the answer, but unfortunately it’s not. It did create a very cool effect that I’ll use in the future though.

I’ve realized that the cap issue (or whatever it is) doesn’t become a problem until the shapes in question stop moving. I have movement on 16 shapes and a camera movement at the same time. They look clean until each individual shape lands in its resting spot. Once the camera lands in its final spot, they all clear up again.

Does that sound like something you’ve come across? Thank you so much for the help.

Sorry Bill et al – 2 minutes after my last post I finally figured it out. In Preferences, under Playback, I needed to have “Adobe DV” selected.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks Bill. I thought that might be the problem. I didn’t have a cable that would do the job. The new cable came today – iLink 4 pin to a Firewire 800. I’ve plugged the deck in, and I’m having the same trouble. I can capture video with no problem. When I “export to tape” Premiere has no problem controlling the deck. But I only get black.

When I go to my Sequence Settings, the “Playback Settings…” box is grayed out. According to the Adobe Help menu, that’s where I should go to make sure I have the correct settings.

    Any ideas? Thanks!
