Apologies Ian and thanks for your help. I thought I was up to date on drivers/firmware, but an update to firmware 2.54 and driver 4.0.1 did the trick – thank you!

    Hi Phil,
Yes – you can record proxies to an SD card on the 2700 but yes – you do need the Proxy File Encoder Card in order to do it.

The card fits in the “hump” to the rear of the handle – just in front of the wireless slot.

When installed, it allows you to record proxies on: the P2 Card OR the P2 Card AND the SD card. I do wish you could record them to just the SD card, but that’s not the case. You also have 3 choices of recording resolution and with/without timecode window. (1.5 Mbps, 768 kbps and 196 kbps)

you can download the manual for the card here:

November 25, 2011 at 4:45 pm in reply to: Spot on the lens

    Greetings,
I had a small “scuff” in the very center of my fuji 4.5 that was probably caused by a mattebox filter lightly grazing it at some point. It could only be seen in very particular circumstances – with a light shooting straight in and the iris nearly closed so that it was showing the largest depth of field – but it was there and it bothered me.

i finally took it to the fuji service center just south of Los Angeles. I got great service there as Joe Nieman gave the lens a quick once over before turning his attentions to the front element.

I was a bit surprised to watch him pull out a small bottle of Cover Girl CG Smoothers creamy natural (720) foundation makeup and apply a very small drop to the front surface. He buffed that up and then did it again. He said that there is juuuuust enough abrasive in the makeup to remove irregularities, but doesn’t scratch their lens coatings.

After about 3 minutes of cleaning, he finished up with some standard lens cleaner and presto – the scuff was gone.

I couldn’t have been happier. You might try it yourself if you think your only alternative is to send it in…

    OK.
After poking around a bit more, I may have it.
I wanted to get both of the P2 cameras into DVCPRO HD to shoot the same thing as the HDX900.
SO – went to Rec Format first and got both cameras into DVCPRO HD and then was selected the option of system mode at 1080-59.94i, and camera mode gave me either 24PA or straight 24P.

24PA is what I selected in order to give the client their “non-native” 24P – correct?

    THAT should do it.

If so, thanks for letting me talk this out and work through it….

    Hi Ernie –
I wish I could do that, but I guess I can’t give the client what they are requesting.

on the 2700, if I do 1080/59.94i, i then only have the option to do AVC-I 100 or 50 at 24PN. Native only…

    That’s why I was thinking I could go 1080-23.98PsF and then AVC-I 100 or 50 at 24PN….

Same with the 300 – they both only DO Native in Rec Format. The only place that I can specify PsF is in the System Mode on the 2700

Specifically, the 300 will ONLY do 59/94i in 1080 in the system mode and then 24PN in AVC-I 50/100 in Rec Format.

    Hence, my confusion…

Thanks for your input – greatly appreciated.

(is the hdx900 going to give them 24p in NON-native mode????)

    ah, yes…survival.
I’m glad that I had the fire drill of getting things together for that shoot, and i’m not that sad that it went away as I now have the time to gather more information for the future. stuff like this is hard to come across, so thanks for being willing to share.

i think if i have some tulle and irings to fake it through on short notice, i could then acquire some glimmer glass to make it ‘right’ – given the time to do so.

Thanks for the input guys, but of course the job went away.
John – I’m still not used to having you right down the street and should have called you direct. it was for barbara last week, so I can only assume you were already booked since they came my way.

we were going to go with soft fx 1’s and had been requested by NY to have iRings as backup – hence my question – but they didn’t specify (despite my asking) what they liked IN the iRings.

it would have been in SD, so iRings would/could/should have been fine with Tulle but i also wondered about glimmer glass – although when we’re dealing with rental/provided cameras, they are not always equipped with matteboxes (it was going to be 2 guys running 4 cameras…you know how it goes now) so again – Tulle and iRings would have been the easy, consistent way to address all 4 cameras.

Dennis – what “strength” of glimmer glass have you been using with Barbara and Diane? I’ve recently relocated to LA, so I’m dealing with more and more situation where people need/want some “help” in the field and are aware of what can be done in-camera.

Bill – I’m with you on doing things in post, but this is what the client wants, so this is what the client gets!!

Thanks again guys – great information here and I appreciate the time you take to put it down.

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for the response. I understand the capabilities of the SD card and scene files, I just have never understood a clear procedure for reading and writing the files and user settings. For me, the manual is confusing on this process.
