    Hi Brian

She should have helped you, not just referred you to the website. I hope you will still consider Redrock since it is equal to (and in many ways better than) the Ultimate, and less than half the price (going back to REdrock’s mission of affordable gear for personal ownership)

We put together a good podcast on selecting 35mm lenses that you can find at https://www.redrockmicro.com/podcasts.html (third one down). With the release of our new LiveLens active lens mount for canon ef lenses, that part of the podcast is no longer relevant.

Here are some tips on selecting 35mm lenses:

    – you can use AF lenses in manual mode. If you haven’t already purchased lenses, it’s better to go with manual focus lenses since the feel of the focus ring is much better, and you won’t spend the additional $$ for auto focus which you don’t need when using an adapter.

    – generally you want faster lenses – f2.8 or faster is best.

    – older nikon lenses are not color matched, so always make sure to white balance between lens changes. Avoid using presets since they won’t account for slight color changes between lenses

If you have specific questions and I can be of help, please feel free to write to me directly at brian at redrockmicro dot com

    Thanks

    Brian

  • I guess I’m the only one with this problem? Perhaps others who are using Decklink could let me know if their Vegas/Decklink setups are working.

I am not trying to do anything fancy, just preview via decklink

    Thanks

I have only two simple wishes for vegas: to handle 10-bit color space, preferably in conjunction with my decklink card, and to be windows Vista 64-bit capable.

I would be so happy 🙂

I bought (unknowingly) from a grey market dealer. I called and first asked if this camera was eligible for the rebate. “yes”. I checked their user references on the internet – over 90% positive. I paid less than the ‘normal’ price, but not less than the rebate. I got the camera that I ordered, and not a lot of flim-flam. Do I regret it? you bet. Do I feel a little taken? sure. Was I completely ripped off? No, I did get the camera at the price (Jan informed me it was a canadian version).

Hope that gives you some perspective

  • Bruce –

you can also use something like the micro35 (www.micro35.com) to use 35mm lenses with the DVX. It allows you to use a whole array of 35mm lenses (such as SLR) beyond just the usual wide angle and achromat adapters.

I have also used century optics’ 1.7 wide angle adapter and though I’ve found it to be good, the micro35 gives me a lot more options for around the same price. Century also provides an achromatic, though I haven’t used it.

    Cheers

    Brian
