Great, thanks for mentioning this to Coremelt. I’ve bought a few things from them over the years and they seem pretty reliable as well as being responsive to my dumb questions.

I googled my issue and it looks like there are a couple of tools which could work here. I’ll get back at some stage with my experiences.

Actually, that lovely, slightly undersized Labrador bitch spent most of her life with our other male Labrador. It was only after he passed that the original concerns about stress were raised. She used to amaze all with her ability to unfailingly intercept flying biscuits. She had the fastest neural networking brain tuned to trajectories that any of us had ever seen. We miss them!

Many thanks for such a speedy reply Ben. Almost as fast as I’m reviewing my footage! I’m pretty much doing the various things you kindly suggest but it would be great to have a machine do it for me.

Could be useful in other situations. Years ago someone said our Labrador would get stressed if we left her alone for more than half a day. I set up a camcorder covering the large area of the apartment to which she had access and after four plus hours of shopping we came back, I ran through the footage (in the way I described) and we were relieved to prove she slept calmly with all four paws in the air the whole time.

Yeah, that’s the situation. Goodness only knows why I changed it. All good now and reasonable file sizes again. Thanks!

And to round things off I created an MP4 from the “Apple ProRes 422” file and that reduced the same video size down to 2.87 GB. About 1% of the “Apple ProRes 4444 XQ” file! To my not-so-bad eyes there’s no worthwhile difference. Interesting, at least for me.

Oh dear – I think I’ve got it. I looked in the setting for the Export and I seem to have specified the Video Codec of “Apple Prores 4444 XQ”. I can’t remember changing to that! Anyway, I tried it again with the ‘Source’ option (“Source – Apple ProRes 422” as it turned out), ran the export again and the output fie ended up a much more reasonable 65GB. Phew! I also compared the two files for image quality difference and to me there was NO difference but then I don’t have the latest and greatest equipment. So please stop panicking on my behalf 😉

Many thanks, Doug, for the suggestions. In fact I have four of these drives and three of them have the “Ignore ownership on this volume” tick box appearing at the bottom of the “Get Info” dialog but it’s simply not there for the drive in question. Strange… So I copied everything off that drive with the intention of doing an Erase but just before doing that I checked and the “Ignore…” tick box was back! I went ahead and did the Erase and I suppose all I can do is to use it for my next video project and see what happens then. As I say, strange…

Not sure if I entirely understand what you want to do but if you put a bunch of clips on the timeline, select them all, Control-D and then enter a value such as 100 to represent 1 second then all the clips will be cut down to 1 second each. Does that help?

Hey Doug – hope springs eternal and it is Spring, at least where I am. 😉 I bet the CC guys are still slaving away on the feature, yes…? 🤨

February 23, 2022 at 5:35 pm in reply to: 4 hours of video on one DVD?

Hi Dan, I hope you’re still around. May I ask what you did, which parameters you adjusted? Soon I’ll be trying to get a 98 minute video (which a simple menu system) onto a single layer DVD. I recall a bit less than 90 minutes is about the max and I really don’t want to have to spread the file over two DVDs. Anything in particular you recall you did to keep the best quality image possible in the circumstances? Thanks for any advice!
