There might be something to that but I think a lot of editors just want to be familiar with their footage before adding it to the timeline for no rhyme or reason. That is how a lot of us have been taught. I would bet “performance anxiety” applies to all methods of editing whither you are editing subtractive or not. Simon, your post still come across as those that don’t edit subtractive are somehow inferior than those that do. I am sure that was not your intent. Got to go I am late for my editing therapy.

Well said.

I just realized something. In FCP X we have the browser that has a filmstrip view and a list view. PP does not have a filmstrip view in the project pane or anywhere that I know of except if your footage is placed in a sequence. It looks like those that like the PP sequence way of editing are trying to emulate the browser filmstrip view. May be in the future PP will copy the way FCP X browser works just like they copied the way Motion and FCP X work together with PP version called the Essential Graphics Panel. Kidding aside, both methods are viable and you have to decide which one will work for you on each project.

June 17, 2017 at 4:03 pm in reply to: How do I synchronise 2 audio channels within a video clip with FCPX?OK, this may not work but I am thinking out loud. I would detach the audio channel that is off my 20ms. Export each that channel as a .wav or .aiff. Bring that audio clip back in and sync with the camera audio that is not out of sync. Sometimes it is easier to do it manually.

June 17, 2017 at 7:19 am in reply to: How do I synchronise 2 audio channels within a video clip with FCPX?Yes there is a way. Create a multicam and not a syncronize of the clips. Select all clips and then create a MC. If there is a slate in all clips use sound as your sync point. If you don’t have a slate you can put a marker on each clip where the audio starts.

June 14, 2017 at 6:46 pm in reply to: More Bricklayers and Sculptors from Oliver and Simon[Walter Soyka] “Collections and bins hold clips. A string-out, being a sequence, is fundamentally different; it holds edits, or sets of clips that are juxtaposed linearly in time. That juxtaposition in time, the choices that Simon continuously iterates over in his method, is the “value” over a mere set of clips.”
The string-out method starts out with all the clips laid out in the sequence in no order other than how the clips were shot and will be a sequence of clips in alphabetical order. So I see no difference than the clips in the FCP X browser. The clips are not juxtaposed until you start taking away clips you don’t want, (rejecting in FCP X) and creating another sequence, (keywording in FCP X or creating a new event).

June 12, 2017 at 8:07 pm in reply to: More Bricklayers and Sculptors from Oliver and SimonOliver Peters So you spend 90% of your time messing around with browser organization instead of actually editing.
Because of the organizing done up front, you are editing as you place those choices in the timeline as you go. And yes you can do precise edits in the browser unlike what Simon said.
Oh well, we all edit differently and like what we like.

[Andrew Kimery] “Every week I see job ads posted on Staff Me Up, Film and TV Pro, Media Match, various FB groups, Craigslist, etc., from small and medium sized businesses across the US looking for editors that know Premiere Pro.
The ones I see mention PP, but also mention knowing FCP X is a plus
Andy PattersonAdobe updates since the CC have been mediocre. I would agree that Adobe should focus on creating a good product but they still have bugs form over a year ago. Adobe is not offering a superior product anymore over the competition.
But it has a great titler that can create logos. Just kidding Andy.
