  • I forgot this tip. Since you don’t have waveforms on your video you can’t see where they match. Select either your audio or video clip and while you play it you can nudge it and hear where they match. You may have to shorten one of them so you have room to nudge it.

as a favour and it so happens they had a problem with the rental company
and so couldn’t get the gear to jamsync camera and sound,
and no sound was recorded on camera, so I’m left with an old-fashioned
manual sync on my hands; and although you could do this
without laying clips on the timeline, it is easier to check and perfect sync
if you do ( for instance nudging clips by subframe increments and such)
and may come in handy for delivering viewing dailies kemrolls.”

Mauricio, there is a simple way to sync your cameras and audio. You have to use markers to do it. It takes a little longer but it works. In FCP X there is a multicamera view which is like a sync map but more powerful. In each of your video and audio clips add a marker where your clap is. Create a new multicam clip according to marker placement. Double clip on your multicam clip and it will open up in the multicam clip viewer. The markers will get you 99 percent there. This is where you can see your wave forms and nudge your clips into sync. This view is your sync map. So yes, FCP X can do that.

I did not think Ronny was condescending at all.

Oliver said, “Historically most of those are not Mac users, which kind of negates FCPX.”

Historically those people don’t edit their own videos so….

That would be like having two monitors with the same thing since your effects and such would be on the program anyway. Is he talking about having the viewer that will have his media from the browser in one window and the program on the second display?

I have been able to open a read only PowerPoint in Keynote. Builds are the animations that are built into the slideshow. some builds are not compatible with Keynote and will have to be re-built.

I do this all the time. You can open your PowerPoint in Keynote. Go through all the slides to make sure that they are all formatted correctly, and that all the builds will work. Export your keynote as a QuickTime. I usually will leave a couple seconds between builds to give me room to edit. I also like to use the hold frame function in Final Cut 10 to pause slides when they are on the screen longer.

Maybe his super duper PC is not all that great after all. Still, Premiere is known for a lot of bugs that have never been fixed

You need to ask those grader guys why you should stick with Premiere. FCP X is a new animal and at first you might ask yourself, what the hell? Once you get it, you will probably love it. But your milage may vary.
