August 21, 2016 at 4:15 pm in reply to: 6 months in with FCPX… my feature requests (FWIW)…You can choose to link footage manually if you want even if the names don’t match. I have done that a couple of times in X. As I recall you have to do it one by one and it worked for me.

let’s tackle your first question.
I would create a new project “Best Of” in the same library your other events are. I would next create a folder called “Best of Keywords” under the library. Browse your footage and create keywords for your best of footage and put them in the folder you created. Edit the footage from the keywords into the “Best of” project. Refine your edit and export. There is many different ways of doing this and others may have a better way.
There is a Smart Collection by default where you can find all your project with in the Events.
Create an event for each day of your Vlog.
Sounds like you are importing footage you have already imported. There is an option in the import window that will hide footage already imported.

July 19, 2016 at 4:57 am in reply to: When filtering for Favorites in Browser can you avoid needing to expand each clip to show the annotated faves?Show skimmer info will show clip name, timecode and keywords. You are right it does not show the annotation you made for that favorite. I would choose to show all favorites (or show everything) and twirl down all those clips to see your annotations in the list view. It would be nice in the filmstrip view you could see the annotations and not just the green favorite line. You could also keyword those favorite sections with a keyword that matches your favorite annotation. That way when you skim over that section you can see annotation (keyword). Not a perfect solution but it is night and day difference from the other NLE. IMHO.

You do have to have that clip selected. So this is how I would do it. Select the clip in list view, option+left or right arrow to collapse or expand, down or up arrow to select next clip. If you are in the film strip view you can hover where the marker is and if you have show skimmer info on you can see the annotations and keyword info.

July 15, 2016 at 11:12 pm in reply to: First day on FCPX editing question. Sorry in advance. Newbie Hat.I did some testing and the encoding in background will pause if you are working in the storyline. However, export out a master and have it open compressor when done and then export from compressor into a .mp4 or whatever it will continue to encode while working.

On your camera you can set it up to record to one channel or 2 channels.
