What you are reading is “tech short hand”
Let me answer your original question,
    1. SH604 > This would perhaps be a Euphonics SH604 noise gate in rack frame 1.
    2. Most mixing desks have grouping either 4,8,16. these allow sections of the mix to be “grouped” together and then controlled as a single block rather than individual mics, and the two numbers refers to which group and how the panning may be assigned.

In audio many / most items are referred to as model numbers rather than by maker.
At times the language that audio people use may seem quite foreign but most occupations have their own abbreviated terminology.

If it was electrical, a few things that crossed my mind, a regular but random splat is commonly caused by motors like on fridges, washing machines or small air conditioners. Are you on the same circuit as any items like this? Motors also emit quite a lot of RF when it turns on, so even being on a different circuit but having the radio mic receivers within a few metres may pick it up (walls DON’T stop RF interference). And does it show up on ANYTHING else like video monitors or TVs?

If it was an acoustic pop could it be a blast of air coming from the “talents” nose? (normally occurs on males of large stature that take LARGE and frequent breaths), I know it sounds strange but often broadcast TV studios use inverted OMNI lapel mics to solve the problem.

Changing the radio mic frequency will not solve either of these 2 problems.

Some mixers from Behringer the phantom supply volts are very different… (mine are)
As the fault is common to both using the 416p measuring the volts is where I would start.
Many other mics have a VERY wide phantom voltage tolerance and not have any problem with either the mixer or camera.

    What sort of mixer?
Have you actually checked the volts on the XLR of the camera?
Measure with a volt meter betweens pin 2 and pin 1 as well as between pin 3 and pin 1, (pin 1 being the negative connection)

It sounds ike a phantom power has “Low” volts… the 416 is VERY critical of the need of 48v +/- 4v.
I have previously built phantom power supplies using 5 x 9v batteries giving 45v. Often the mic sound goes “thin” when the batteries drop only a little or using cable with old connectors
Check the O/P volts on the XLR of the camera, I suspect when your camera battery drops down a bit the phantom power volts do the same.

  • Often a good simple stereo mic is good to have, especially on location shoots or OB’s.
Some other good stereo mics similar to the Sennheiser MHE44 would be the Shure VP88, Rode NT4, or my all time favorite AKG C552.

PS. If you do want to get rid of it send me a message rather than putting it back on eBay.

July 3, 2010 at 6:39 am in reply to: Wiring Diagram for TRS to RCA

With the connections lets start with the tip of the RTS must go to the tip ofthe RCA.
The ring of the RTS goes to the outer of the RCA, these are the audio part of the connection.
The shield braid is also connected to the outer of the RCA to provide the shielding.

Occasionally the shield braid is not connected to “float” the earth to stop hum loops on some items but bear in mind it may give you little or no shielding in the cable.

Have a look at the Holophone mic some of them have an inbuilt encoder…
I have used one of the discreet o/p versions and WAS astounded with the results.

Here are some headphone amps that might be suitable for your needs…

    https://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=99&brandID=2
The actual connections would need to be worked for the unit used.
Maybe a local hire company would have something similar?

    Here’s some more…
    https://www.krksys.com/product_rokit.php
I have used a set of 6″ Rokits and they sound great.
I usually carry some CDs that I know very well to use as a standard, play them for a while in whatever facility to “get used to the speakers” prior to a production, as even the same make/ model mounted or positioned differently may sound VASTLY different from what you are used to.
