March 14, 2012 at 4:01 pm in reply to: FCPX and Shake vs FCPX and Motion

Shake has been dead for like 12 years. It may still be around in some places, because it was a good program. It will in no way interact with FCPX. Motion and FCPX play very nicely together.

Nuke is the compositor replacement for Shake.

Sadly, without blu-ray, all HD must be down converted to 720×480 SD, 16×9 anamorphic to comply with standard DVD format. That’s why it looks bad.

  • All Chroma-keys look great when viewed in B&W. It hides a multitude of sins.

Funny how basic functionality is applauded. Only Apple could get away with that.

  • Since .03 allows for layerd PSDs, now, it mya not like your exisitn psd structure. One simple fix might be to flatten your .psds in PS since that’s how .02 imports them.

February 3, 2012 at 5:54 pm in reply to: Loss of quality?

Since you are working in compressed video formats.. and you export out to a compressed video format… there will be quality loss. I don’t believe that there is a rewrapping transcode happening.

You will be compressing DVCPROHD to DVCPROHD.. dub of a dub = quality loss.

Seems like it tells you what it does in the right side of that image.

[Thomas Frank] “You know this is not Pro right? Only one screen, no broadcast output, no multi cam, no EDL…
    First Cut – iMovie
    Prelude – Premiere X ;)”

I am sure the winky is scarcasm.. but in case not. Prelude is not an editor. It’s a logger and viewer and more. I would say it’s a producers tool not and editor’s.

  • No one seems the least bit irritated that little of the functionality of FCPX seems undocumented? Or is that the joy of Apple… the discovery?
