hmmm. ok i attached a pic of what your canvas setting should be.

    921_picture3.png.zip

oh also are you seeing this problem on an external monitor? that would help to determine if it’s just a local problem with some settings in FCP or if there is an issue with the video stream

  • Also you should try to pinpoint the frame where you begin to fall out of sync. add an edit there (B or BB to get all tracks). go to the beginning of the new edit and play from there. then is it still out of sync? does FCP hang up? i’m determined we can solve this man! 🙂

  • It sounds like mpeg streamclip should be able to do the audio conversion you need (for free!). The monitors I have been fortunate enough to use have been from flanders scientific, or JVC surprisingly. But are 2k+. The flanders have built in scopes.

  • in order to eliminate other potential issues, you should FULLY render all V and A first, then check your sync. oh and are you able to check your sync on an external monitor? sound like you are not able to but had to ask.

  • generally FCP doesn’t do a fantastic job of adding or removing pulldowns (23.98 to 29.97 and vice versa). what you should do is first convert all the non 29.97 material to 29.97 using something like compressor or shake to do it. unless you are fine with the way FCP does it of course. after you do that make sure you are fully rendered. if sync is still off after that we can look at other issues, but you should convert your footage first…

i definitely know u! hilarious dude!

ok this is what you need to do. make sure your sequence codec is the same as your clip codec. to do this, you can open a new sequence with whatever settings you want. then take your clip and drag it into the sequence. you should get a message that tells you the clip and sequence settings don’t match and it will ask if you want to change the sequence to match. Say yes. Then you will have a sequence that will play back your footage with no rendering. If you check the sequence settings of your new sequence, you can apply those setting to your problematic black and white sequence.
Oh and you can’t cut reliably with H264. Convert to pro res!

  • i have done this a few different times, here is what I have done. Take your low res sequence, copy it and cut it into a timeline that is set to your final output codec (like 1920×1080 Pro Res or whatever). Then you can reconnect each of the clips in the new time line to it’s higher rez brother (the files with the ‘F’ extensions). Render and you should be golden.

well there are two things that should be checked – what kind of plugin are you using for your keys, and what is the codec of your sequence/clips?

    GO BSU 🙂

my first question: how are you connecting to the screen, through DVI? Is the screen going to be able to display your file at it’s full native resolution (1440×1080 for HDV)? if not just burn it to DVD…
