The last I checked they were using Flash, although a year or so ago I know they were investigating After Effects.
Personally I would go with After Effects unless the Flash Delivery is of supreme importance to you. You should be able to achieve a look that is indistinguishable from their Flash output, and the animation controls in AE are much more robust.

Here are some things to try:

-The Glow effect (set the intensity up, and the threshold down to really blow out the bloom. The radius controls the size of the bloom).

-Exposure (Might be useful to apply in conjunction with Glow).

    OR

-Duplicate the layer. Set the top layer to “add” mode, and apply fast blur. Adjust the blur and transparency of the layer to taste.

    Good luck,

I updated my FCP and it works perfectly. Thanks so much! This is a GREAT tip.

Looks great! Except it’s not working for me… I’ll get back to you after I pound on it a little more…

I get an error saying that I cannot nest a sequence with a different time base.

Experiment with the combination of viscosity and negative force strength until the pieces are sucked in, but don’t emerge again from the other side. The exact settings will vary based on the size (mass) of your pieces.

This will leave you with a clump in the middle, however–but you can use gravity to clean things up. Set the gravity so the pieces fall away from you, and adjust it to taste until the pieces nicely disappear.

    Good luck,
    Brian
