You need to find out the name of the system manuf, they may be using a proprietary format, some do

You could be experiencing tape dropouts, note the points the dropouts occur at and see if the same dropout points occur capturing from another device like the cam it was shot on

The symptoms you describe can be caused by more than one problem, hence the equipment disclosure request, it aids anyone who might want to help in a possible diagnosis rarher than a WAG,
with the info presented I would ask if you had tryed to eliminate the problem by rendering the video -
I think you should have done some more investigation about the card before you bought it, particularly on the GV factory forum to determine if its workflow would suit yours, the card comes in two flavors, one with just HDMI I/O and the other with A/V + HDMI I/O, the whole purpose of the input part of both is the hardware encoding to the Canopus/GV HQ intermediate codec, the apparent acceleration is achieved by the use of the codec itself, as it removes the processer load that is presented by highly compressed video in its native format, the HDMI out gives a good way to judge and CC the video on a external monitor of your choice, also you have the A/V outputs for non HDMI monitors and other I/O requirements, the whole thing comes down to “Caveat Emptor” as they tell you what the card does with some puffery as do other manufs.

You are stepping on your DV footage a few times if you are taking 480i rendering it at HD720 then downconverting it back to a DV frame size and compressing it for mpeg2, I also notice a QT mentioned, try a normal DV workflow then compress it for mpeg2, and make a image file and run that through a computer DVD player -
The file particulars are the type of AVI, is it a DV or a Xvid or some other type.
Now that you mentioned that you were using this type of file prior to installing other software and that you can’t use projects that were also created before the installation points to the installation stepping on something, the best thing would be to select a Restore point just prior to the installation and see if that cures the problem. -

Start the Windows Task Manager and look under the performance tab, it will tell you how the CPUs are doing.
