    Hi there,
    my client captured me about 1000 clips in mp4 format from a security camera and they want me to edit them. (i use both FCP on MAC and Adobe Premiere CS3 on PC). The files cannot be imported into FCP and Premiere. I have tried using many different ways to re-encode/convert those files on MAC and PC but none of the converters can recognize the mp4 file format, i used ProCodec 2, Window Media Encoder, MpegStreamclip, ffmepgX, etc, the files can be played in Window Media Player 11 but can’t be played in Quicktime 7, I don’t know what am i missing here. I just want to know how people capture footage from security camera, and how to encode them for editing. The deadline is next week. HELP PLEASE!!!!!

    Try using gspot gspot.headbands.com/ to see if you can identify the codec you need

    I tried, GSpot say:
    File Type: Unknown
    Mime Type: Unknown

    I have also downloaded Window Media Encoder, ffdshow, Window Media Player filter, Bitcontrol (MPEG Decoder) on PC, still not working
    i also used Handbrake, VLC Player, MPEGSTREAMCLIP, Divx Converter, ffmpehX. All not working

    I don’t understand why the videos can be played on Windows Media Player but none of the converters can recognize them. and also they can’t be played on Quicktime 7

    You need to find out the name of the system manuf, they may be using a proprietary format, some do

    Did you run g-spot on the avi it converted to to see what you got as the end product

    I used their converter, but not worked, it can’t recognize the file.
    I used Gspot, and the result is no codec shown under the Video/Audio column, unknown file type, unknown mime type, The only thing was shown is the Proposed codec solutions and tests and it says “Render OK. The following combination of filters was used. –>(A){Hkm4 Splitter Filter} –> (B){Hkm4 Video Decoder} –>(C) {ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder} –>(D) {Video Renderer}

    Thanks

    I would try to get together with the techies from the CCTV manuf to find out what their specs are and what kind of AVI they are converting to, some of these places use strange frame sizes and scan rates.

    Try Super Video Converter

    Read & download from here
    https://www.techiechips.com/how-to-use-super-video-converter/

    I’ve used it to convert various proprietory formats like mobile phone footage, webcam and Skype footage and has worked all the time
    Good luck
