if you have R20 the growth pattern looks like it would be easy with the new fields. With displacement driving the slime bubbling and fields controlling the growth. It also looks like some of the rust growth stuff that was pre-fields, some of those examples are done in xparticles, yes, but not all. Though the bubbling inside the slime area sure looks like reaction diffusion, something like this https://vimeo.com/160011024

not confusing but no method other than trying out the option to preserve UV boundaries

it sounds like you placed object A where you needed it then clamped. Try Parent or PSR instead, those should do what you want. Or actually parent the object (make A a child of B), or clone A onto B using a point selection

with Mograph and the Cloner it’s very easy, which is probably why it’s not otherwise… if you don’t have Studio or Broadcast it can be done with XParticles so it might be possible with Thinking Particles

the material preview is a set of built in objects you can change by right-clicking on the image and selecting one of the shapes. It’s possible to load more and to rotate the object but I am unaware of ability to add more lights (in the help Reference/Cinema 4D/Cinema 4D Prime/Material Manager/Material Properties/Material Editor/Material Preview). Try right-clicking on the image to get to one of the of the other shape choices (or just choose Default) and see if that fixes it.

it’s got to be single threaded so there is lots of computer left over while you wait. Try and make a guess on the settings you need (maybe you could copy a part of it and poly reduce that as a test?)

The largest single object I have on hand is one of the PLY scanned objects, Lucy, in C4D format it’s 1.33 gigs. I just dropped it into a poly reduction object – it’s taking a while, 10 minutes in and it looks like it might be 10%-ish, I’ll let it percolate…

yeah poly reduction takes a while on big stuff and yours is *huge*, and then changing anything would take a similarly long time to get it right, just nasty by the sound of it.

how is it made? Does it have procedural parts that can be simplified? Or is it all editable? If editable you might be able to use the PolyReduction object but at that size it would be a while… Can you just render it and then use the image on a background plane or BG object?

why do you want to reduce polys? There are not really that many there. They are not clean (looks like it was done in something other than C4D or maybe it was but it was booled) but there aren’t a lot. You could select the faces and run Melt.
