  • Reduce specific part of mesh?

I’m using the polygon reduction tool to lower the geometry of an object, but it starts removing geometry from a part of the object with a relatively low polygon count instead of lowering the polygon count of other, high-count areas. How can I reduce a specific part of the mesh, preferably through a selection? I understand I can use the split tool to make selected polygons a new object, and then reduce that new object separately, but I’d like to keep everything as one mesh so I don’t have to connect every polygon from my new object back to the original mesh when I’m done. Any advice?

Also, this is my first time posting on creativecow, so I hope this post wasn’t too confusing.
