on the trunk of the tree not the ‘leaves’… In testing if you twist polys they show borders with AO – the only way to cure it (I have seen) is to add a SubD surface but that would change the look you have. Seems to be just part of what AO does (how it works) but it’s also true of shadows in lights, you can make the shadows soft enough to eliminate it but they’re so soft it won’t look right – GI is similarly affected. If the look you are going for involves the twisted texture on the trunks I would do the twisting in the material and not in the trunk if you need to use AO.
Your twisting is fairly gentle compared to some of the testing I was doing so maybe you could do it with pure GI (which AO is a faster/less real fake for).

  • try going to Window/Customization/Layouts (or just use the Layout pop-menu in the upper-right corner) and chose Standard

you have Specular on which hasn’t been told to not produce specular highlights where the the transparency is… either use an inverse of the same noise in the Specular channel or just use the Alpha channel rather than the Transparency because the Alpha knows to automatically disable specular wherever there is a ‘hole’.

hair can be grown from just selected polygons – easiest way is to select the polygons and then grow hair on the object.

wetness can be done in C4D too, something else for reality since the bridge is in the water it should stop (or affect the waves on the down-wave (if you understand) side of the bridge. Also with waves that size I would expect some splash from the waves hitting the bridge.

can we see an image with the AO artifacts you are talking about?

the Tracer has a Limit setting – you can limit the spline produced from the either end in your case you probably want From End (the Amount is in frames so that would be the length) and you might want to reverse the sequence.

Not sure what you are after, you want a limit on the length of the trace so the dashes are only a certain length behind the plane and not all the way back to the beginning?

you are animating while using GI… Check out CINEMA 4D/CINEMA 4D Prime/Render Menu/Edit Render Settings/Global Illumination/Tips and Tricks in the Help – it has a “GI and Animation” section near the bottom which has some good info.
